My thoughts so far

Post by TigerTC »

(Just a bunch of random thoughts--my notes from 2 incomplete playthroughs, on 1.00.09 and 1.00.10.)

--I installed on the D: drive and the built-in shortcuts did not work for anything except the C: drive

--1939 Storm Over Europe
Baseline settings--playing as Axis
5 minutes, most of turn 1:
Feels very like the old game. Which is a great thing

[Escape] to unselect a unit, minimizes game
AI seems to be taking a long time for turn 1--just to move a minimal # of units

Took Warsaw easily on Turn 2

-Way to reinforce multiple units?

Game 2
Operation Barbarossa
Enabled Quick Animation to speed up AI turn

Very bothered by the CVs in the English Channel

At this scale there shouldn't be Arty units and such

"The UK and USA freeze Japanese assets in response to their actions in Indochina"
"Their???" should be "Japanese"

Don't like not having unit size designations on armor, cav, mech, etc.

Scrolling in and out with mouse roller zooms in/out two levels

The counters for Armies should be more differentiable from Corps--such as slightly larger. The color is nice but a different size would be better.

Wish I could pause AI turn (call it the "talking kids" option)

USSR major counteroffensive in July 1942

I took Egypt by July 1942

I get the Yugoslav Partisans warning almost every turn but no P appear and I have most of the P locations covered

It takes damaged subs 6 months (seemingly) to cross the Atlantic back to Germany for repairs. Damage shouldn't slow them down.

Units shouldn't lose "full" experience when reinforcing. It should only be half. Even decimated units retained a cadre of experienced leaders--look at how the Germans reformed after the August 44 collapse.

Even in late 1943 I have no idea what US/UK were doing. I've conquered Egypt and most of the Middle East. My subs haven't located any transports crossing the Atlantic; and other than some sporadic strategic bombing, it's been very quiet on the Western Front.

(Like I said, these are just random thoughts. I know it's too far into development to change some of these, but I did want to give my feedback. I CAN'T WAIT for it to go final and purchase this game! I so fondly remember playing hours and hours and hours of Strategic Command, especially some 2-player games with friends while we were in Iraq, handing my laptop back and forth to each other.)

Hi Brojd

Thanks for the feedback, and I'll just reply on a couple of things here:

1) I'll investigate the Yugoslav Partisans issue in case the Pop Up isn't aligned with the Partisan positions.

2) For the sub, its movement rate is based on its supply level rather than its strength. As the supply level also affects its combat effectiveness I generally pull them out of raiding when their supply is still a bit above zero. Or if it is at 5 or more you can Cruise by double clicking on the sub and moving double.

3) I did consider having unit size designations on the armoured units but unfortunately there is no consistency throughout the course of the war between all countries on naming conventions, and as each unit type has to have the same name no matter what nation it belongs to, the rather vague "Tanks" or "Heavy Tanks" is the only solution that avoids this.
