New to games like this

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

New to games like this

Post by briangw »

Been reading some of the AARs and this looks really good. Given that I found the HoI series a little too complicated but enjoyed Panzer Corps and Order of Battle, for those who have played the beta or know, is this going to be easy to pick up and play?

There are a couple of good video series I have watched on YouTube

One by ParaDogs and the other by NightPhoenix. They show you the game in good detail and you can judge for yourself but I would say this has a very high level of playability. I am particularly impressed with the accessibility of game functions without everything being buried in menus.

Like it's predecessors, this is a game you can jump into and learn the basic mechanics pretty quickly briangw. There is depth to it in terms of supply, optimizing attack and defense, entrenchment, and so on, but you can easily play this game with no prior experience and have fun doing it.

Certainly everything I've heard and seen from new players has confirmed that this game is very accessible, just like all previous games in this series. In fact we've done our best to make it easier than in the previous games.

There's a lot extra under the hood but most of how to play can be learned by just starting up the game and getting going. [:)]

I second the recommendation of the Night Phoenix videos on Youtube. I'm on part 8 and feel like I could play the game without even reading the manual.

If you have played HOI, you can learn most the basic functions in game in a few hours. There may be some finer points that require a lot longer. Though the beauty of SC originally was it's simplicity. Although the second part of it's beauty is it's complexity beyond it's simplicity.

For instance I don't even believe the guy on Youtube has mastered the function of Operating Units... Though seems to be enjoying the game quite well as the Axis without it C:
