By virtue of their lengthy training on land the Marine Wildcats and DBs/TBs probably have pretty good stats on the combat skills applicable to their aircraft. Being "Carrier Trained" does not seem to add anything particularly noticeable to their effectiveness (perhaps better strike coordination?), but getting them overall "Experience" does. So you do not need to cruise the seas exposing your CVs to sub attack just to pass the time - you can use the squadrons if their skills are high 60s or better and their Experience is over about 55. I would also want Defensive skill to be over 60.

The fighter groups can increase experience by flying CAP. The DBs and TBs can fly Nav Search, ASW, do some surprise bombing of isolated enemy garrisons or even just cross-train in those missions.

And while your new Marine squadrons are gaining experience and getting time on deck, your Navy squadrons can hone their skills and push their experience to elite levels.

I don't know what your balance of forces is vis-à-vis KB, but you might even be in a position to take it on with the help of your extra squadrons. Your call.

That is good news that the carriers don't necessarily have to set sail to train the untrained carrier pilots. However, I may still set sail from Los Angels to Port Stanley to give the ship crews some more experience. The carriers have been at sea quite a bit during the last year.

Japanese submarine sinks another Allied AM.

Japanese bombers continue to hammer my poor Chinese in China and bomb the Allies in the jungle one hex East of Ramree Island.

The battle for Burma is going to get very interesting during the month of February as Japanese infantry and tanks one hex West of Paoshan push toward the Burma border and as Allied air bases in Burma become functional to support Allied fighters.

Example, the Allies solely held Hex 60, 44 (the hex Northeast of Shwebo).

The Japanese solely held Shwebo.

The Allies moved from Hex 60, 44 into Shwebo. The Allies and Japanese now share Shwebo.

It is my understanding that the Japanese may not now move from Shwebo into Hex 60, 44. Is this correct?

Surrounding Five North-Central Burma Bases

Allied ground forces continue to move to complete surrounding the five North-Central Burma Bases of Shwebo, Mandalay, Meiktila, Magwe, and Taung Gyi.

For fourteen months I have cut-and pasted numerous combat actions from the Combat Reports. As the war increases in heat, the Combat Reports are becoming longer and longer. I think that to continue to cut and paste each combat action from the Combat Reports might become quite a chore for me and be rather boring for The War College.

Accordingly, I am going to change the format of The War College AAR.

In the future, I intend to keep The War College posted as to the progress of the war by commenting on events that I deem interesting or significant. Infrequently, when prudent, I will cut-and paste from the Combat Report.

I think the underlying popularity for the really riveting "Allied AARs" (which I follow) is not so much the style because everyone has their own take.

However (limited) combat results and maps from specific hot spots do add a lot because I can visually follow in your foot steps; you are not only entertaining, you are teaching.

I can place myself in your position and ponder: What would I do? or I hadn't considered that ? or how in the h-e-double hockey sticks did he organize those troops there !

Have you moved anybody into evidently vacant Rabaul/New Guinea area? I hate to harp, but at this point you to need to start some serious engagement if for no other reason than to start the attrition process. The India/Burma skirmish isn't going touch the IJN. Your esteemed opponent is obviously quite content to sit back fortify and upgrade planes and production. We don't want him calling you Rio Yeller!!

I don't wish to speak for Rio, but allow me to interject if you will.

Rabaul is being built up slowly—while hopefully, in appearance, maintaining its guileless, sleepy backwater character.

It will become important to my SS OPS during Operation Sea Shark.

Remember, IJN will be rudely cuffed across the chin when Sea Shark launches. Each side will suddenly be propelled out of this easy pace and be presented with an existential dilemma.

As for our dilemma we have long decided: to risk everything at the Marianas.

At the instant his alarm sounds at our approach, El Lobo's dilemma will be rudely thrust upon him, and I suspect he will respond with full fury.

For my part, the operation will include around 115 submarines (baring catastrophic losses until then) and around 60 minesweepers.

Rio's far greater participation is no less committed: Everything means everything.
