last minute observations

Post by Dcobra »

Hello,

I know its late in the game but I had a few last minute observations after a play through as the axis.

The first is that tactical bombers at the start of 1939 show a de-entrenchment of one when in reality they are attacking with .5. This is confusing because when you then reach ground attack level two the number stays at one.

Italy stayed at 69% entry probably because I moved units down to Africa too soon. However it was never made clear this would be the result of moving too soon. Perhaps a pop up message like the others letting you know not to do that would help. Once they choose to not enter Italy is useless because I cannot declare war on them or influence them diplomatically to my side.

On the research screen under anti-tank section is refers to "their" strength or attack. It would help to specify who "their" is exactly, I assume all infantry.

Last but not least I think overall the pace of the game is sometimes too slow. The decisiveness of SC1 and SC2 is lost at times due to extreme distances between cities, units, etc. I still enjoy the increased detail over those games but perhaps there could be an option to lessen detail and get right to the action.

Thanks,

Pure taste, or not? Personally I think it is one of the positive developments of this series, that smaller countries are presented not only with a single hex and the larger ones with ten. But maybe someone donated the old W&W map for the game in the lunch break? [8|]

Hi

Thanks for this. I've just checked with the latest version and German Tac Bombers are correctly showing 0.5 at the start, so that is fixed.

Regarding Italy, there is no connection between its mobilization rate and moving Italian units to Africa, so I'm not sure why it might have stayed at 69%. Italy doesn't normally ramp up its mobilization significantly until Germany invades Belgium and France, and they will then tend to enter the war very quickly. Can you confirm if this does or does not happen?

Good point about the Anti-Tank research tooltip. [:)]

The BattleField
You are probably right that it is a matter of preference. I enjoy all the updates over the years but it's just something I've noticed in a few wargames recently.

Bill, for this playthrough it is late 1942 and I am deep in Russia with Italy still at 69%. I will be happy to make the same moves for Italy once I buy the released version in a few days. If Italy still chooses not to enter the war I will certainly let you know.

Hi

Could you take a look and see if any Mobilization scripts relating to Italy have been switched off?

I can't think of any other reason why Italy wouldn't join, it has me scratching my head! [&:]

Thanks

Just checked all the scripts. All of them are checked including every thing to do with Italy in the war entry and mobilization sections.

Are you getting a good range of other events in the game happening?

I only ask as there is a script that guarantees Italy to mobilize in due course, so for it to remain neutral suggests something is preventing this and undoubtedly some more from firing.

Maybe when you get the release version I would suggest fully uninstalling this version first, just in case.

For the game you're playing at the moment, you could always switch sides at the end of your turn, so that you can declare war on Italy with the Allies, and then switch back again so that you can continue playing this one until you're ready to make the change.

Yes those are good ideas. Now that I think about it I realize also that Finland never declared war on the Soviet Union even though I was the one who initiated it. I will be switching over to the released game.
