Frankly I am a little underwhelmed by the results. I rather expected an attack like 300 A6M2 and 150 Betty... I thought your CAP performed amazingly well

Why rotate the Thunderbolts in? Are the Corsairs not the superior CAP fighter against Kamikaze given the higher manuever rating??

Were you on CAP at ALT = 30000? Do you knwo what ALT they came in at? I assumed it would be 15000 like a Dive Bomber and to take advantage of the Zero high "low altitude" maneuver rating ??

I have no experience in this / little in the game... but I am assuming you would keep the Corsairs in perhaps at lower altitude. Maybe then stack the Thunderbolts over top for Dive bonus ???

The altitudes were very high - 37,000 ft and 30,000 ft. No, my CAP is not that high. I figure if I push it that high then he will come in low. And since the bombers and kamikazes have to get lower when they attack, I figure that 10,000 to 15,000 ft is still a good altitude for CAP. I'm not worried about sweeps at the moment, but will adjust if needed. The P-47 is so much faster than the Corsair and it has more firepower. Those groups are also larger, and that base is group limited at the moment. It will build to size 9 in possibly ten days or so.

The CAP did OK except for the first attack. The Sams on escort really, really did a great job. Look at how few Sams versus how many Corsairs, and you'll see that the Corsairs could have done better pushing through the escort, which IMO is why the hits on ships happened.

There were some quite large (not record large) attacks on carriers earlier and they were handled by a combination of CAP and flak, mostly CAP. I am sure there will be more as we close to invade Kyushu.
