Turn 3 - 14th October 1939

The British Government receive a warning from the Norwegians about respecting territorial waters. It appears that units of the 2nd Submarine Flotilla were seen inside these waters off Bergen where they sank a number of German ships with 14 MPP within.

I will need to check where the boundary is* - I could do without annoying Norway..... but the destruction of some German MPP felt good [:)]

*Edit: No boundary. Any attack on this convoy will cause Oslo a potential problem.

Well having said I wouldn't do it, I guess all is fair in love and war[;)]

I disband the remaining Polish fighter and bomber squadrons and use the MPP gained to bolster the defences in and around Warsaw.

Flush with success, the Admiralty orders the 2nd Submarine Flotilla to remain on station - although to head further north for safety. Their Lordships will not remove the subs until the Government tell them they have to.....

The 5 flotillas of destroyers (inc two French) continue to plough their lonely furrow in the North Atlantic.

The advance units of the BEF arrive in France - two Corps, Gort and the Army unit.

The British purchase a Corps - they need to get the BEF up to a reasonable size. They also purchase a destroyer flotilla. This leaves enough MPP to start reinforcing I Corps in France.

France
The French reinforce a couple of units, but the main goal is to get their anti-tank and anti-air research going.

Soviet Union
They seemed unable to research anything so they purchased an AA unit.

USA
A 100 MPP is spent on anti-tank research

I pressed the button for the next turn, only to be greeted with a decision.

The Admiralty are pushing for us to use bases in the Republic of Ireland. Saying yes would not only give us the bases but also increase national morale by 1,000. However the USA won't be impressed and neither will Eamon de Valera.

The UK Government reject the proposal.

Turn 4 - 5th November 1939

Poland
Warsaw finally fell last turn, although the 10th Mechanised Brigade did a sterling - if ultimately futile - job south of the capital.

United Kingdom
Another 12 MPP fall to the marauding subs of the 2nd Flotilla. The officers and men of HM Submarines Oxley, Seahorse, Starfish and Thistle are mentioned in dispatches.

The 5 destroyers flotillas continue to pound the beat but have not caught sight nor sound of the enemy...

The 2nd Flotilla is taken off patrol for a while as the Government finally gets nervous about Norwegian reaction.

Soviet Union
The Soviets do not react well to the banning of the Communist Party by the French Government.

The British start to research anti-submarine warfare and anti-tank weaponry, while 2nd Corps in France is further reinforced.

The French build a Garrison and reinforce one of their front line units.

Its strange with FOW on and no Poland. I have no idea what is going on! I hear there has been an assassination attempt against Adolf Hitler. Sadly it failed.....

United Kingdom
The Canadians get another destroyer flotilla - hussah![:)] I place this in Halifax.

Maybe the Germans did not commit their subs and surface raiders. There is simply no sign at the moment.

The 2nd Submarine Flotilla are placed back on patrol off the Norwegian Coast.

The British start to research advanced aircraft and reinforce 1st Corps.

France, USA and Soviet Union
None of these have much in the way of MPP so I do nothing this turn.

Poland
Interestingly (oddly?) the Polish MPP keeps rising?

Much to the disgust of free peoples everywhere, the Soviets invade Finland - and is promptly expelled from the League of Nations....err... right.

Graf Spee is scuttled following the Battle of the River Plate which apparently happened....

And most importantly, Gone With the Wind is released in US Cinemas.

The 3rd (Canadian) Escort Flotilla (HMC Ships Assinboine, Fraser, Restigouche and St Laurent) finds a wolf pack.

The Canadian destroyers set about the U-boats - and are able to call upon the British 1st Escort Flotilla to assist in the battle.


Losses are felt on both sides but the U-boats come off worst.

Now that's coolio.

One of my aircraft (the light bombers of the Advanced Air Striking Force) has a its strength in green. That means I can upgrade it. I am not sure what caused that (I didn't think my research was that advanced) but that is good news!

On closer inspection, the upgrade is in respect of naval weaponry. Mmmm not ideal. I'll leave that for the moment.

I reach the maximum funding allowed with the British by researching ground attack weapons.

I spend 50 MPP on Diplomacy in Spain and Turkey.

I spend the remainder of the MPP on reinforcing XII Corps in Egypt.

France
The French continue to spend their MPP on trying to get their army up to full complement. It is proving a long process.....

Soviet Union
I notice the Germans have captured Lvov. This is in the Soviet sphere of Eastern Poland. I will move some Soviet troops in and see what happens.

EDIT: That is interesting. The Soviet troops cannot move into Eastern Poland....

Some potentially interesting goings on...

Firstly:

France
Do the British and French want to send an expeditionary force to Finland asks General Weygand.

One of the 'interesting goings on' mentioned above was that German paratroopers have been seen at Hamburg. Are the Germans looking to take Norway?

What the hell, for a cost of 50 MPP each I am going to say yes to Weygand's wacky proposal.

Time to ready the Home Fleet too.

The two destroyer units go to Glasgow and Rosyth and the Infantry to Portsmouth.

Germany lose another 15 MPP to the British submarines off Norway

Turkey has swung 12% towards the Allied Camp

Soviet Union
An anti-aircraft unit arrives for the Soviets and is placed in Minsk.

The USSR steps up military production

Strangely (or perhaps because it couldn't) the German sub did not move. Attacked by four flotillas (the French and another Royal Navy flotilla have arrived too) the wolf pack is almost at an end.
