Cant run this on Steam

Post by Rising-Sun »

Did all I could to get around this issues, still doesn't launch. Running under Wins10x64 here. Admin, etc. Uninstall it and reinstall it, nothing.

Checked on the DirectX, Netframe 4.0, did by the book and still isn't working.

Would like to get help on this, otherwise I will have to ask for refund. Noticed others having same issues, weird no error code, nothing.

Please check if you have any file named DW_CrashDump.txt and attach it to your message. You can find that file at your Windows documents folder at:
....\Documents\My Games\Distant Worlds Universe

Thank Paulus for trying to help, unfort there is none. Believe I have corrupted registry files somehow, installing and deleting files and software for the last three years.

I did ran that regdia w/e that is, found some problems and by the time I enter my name and email, they wanted 29.99 for the work up. So I cancel that and decided to clean it myself.

Took me awhile to backup whatever I had on the drive, then reinstall the OS, drivers, etc.

Could you please attach a DxDiag report file to your message?

How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. Click on "START" (on Windows 8/10 press “Windows key” and the “R” key at the same time)
2. Click "run" (skip this step on Windows 8/10)
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice
6. Attach the file to your message

Well it is too late now, I just format my drive and install OS. Just want to start over fresh and the only thing i have to be patient with is updates.

a clean install of windows 10 fixes most things, and better than any upgraded version imo

Well actually I had the free upgrade of 10, now I am back to 8.1 and cannot get the free upgrade. Microsoft cancel it end of July, so I am out of the loop.

Still having problems to install that Netframe 3.5, cant get the update do it. This is annoying, even the checking for update, it seem nothing is going on.
So follow some guidelines on how to do this or that, doesn't seem to be working.

once you have installed the upgrade on a windows 8.1 or 7 for that matter pc, at any time now or in the future you can use windows 10 for free for life on the pc you installed it on, so let say this time you wanted to use windows 10, all you had to do was download the windows 10 iso or usb thumb tool version and install it on the same hardware, once installed and started it would look at the hardware on your pc, if the same as the upgraded to windows 10 version it would activate without needing a key, job done

That game (Distant Worlds) was asking for that 3.5 before continue to install the upper version. Yes before I format the HD, I did ran Distant Worlds with Matrix version and did the same thing, so my registry has to be screwed up pretty bad. Maybe has something to do with 8.1, idk. But 8.1 wasn't friendly and wasn't doing what suppose to be doing.

Anyway I manage to talk to someone live chat at Microsoft, explaining the the situations and he gave me access to Wins 10 for free. Hopefully sometime today I will test it and make sure it will work. Take time though.

How to install .Net 3.5 on WIndows 8/8.1 and 10:
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/librar ... ntrolPanel

Usually I use the option to enable the .NET Framework 3.5 in Control Panel.

Thank you Paulus, I have tried that too and still didn't work. That is why I said it was weird and annoying earlier.

Anyway I finally got it up and running on 10, just need to tune it a little with the right drivers and get to that programs soon.

Edited...
Got it up and running, the game running smooth now. I have a question, will it disable the achievements if I change alien pictures, shipsets as well Shakturi playable? Playing sandbox mode here, just a few changes I did in the past with this. Its a alien mod I made from the movie "The Aliens" by Ridley Scott.

I am getting the achievements, glad I am. Though if I was changing something in the race sheets, it would kill it. All I did is make one race playable as my alien mod.

Glad everything is fine now.

remember in windows 10, if you have 2 drive as well, to alter them so one doesn't go to sleep too often by default, and set the pc to use full power, not any of the other settings, as while they may save power, they also turn off parts of the cpu so slow's it down, to save power, for me it's not needed, when i need to save power, i turn it off[X(][:D][;)]

Yeah that helps, I wouldn't mine having another one, esp for games. But I use it almost everyday heh.

Anyway glad I got back in Wins10, though I was going to be stuck in 8.1 and didn't like it. Doesn't seem to be effective.

I think it has something to do with when you start over fresh, not all the files are there yet. May need to wait awhile for them to catch up. Doesn't seem they put much efforts into it, rather spend most of their times on 10 then something else.

I know I am not 100 percent use to 8.1, before that I had vista and just noticed that Microsoft will no longer support it and that is when I bought that 8.1 around three or four years ago. I like it better than vista, but getting everything ready at first can be pain, because you will have to wait and figure out how to do this or that and sometimes it doesn't do it.

With upgrade to Windows 10, there was no problems at all, you get set up right a way and only have to be patient with it. Usually a day, for 8.1 can go on for a week or even longer.

That is why I said it was weird, that it would install or update to it. I only had one update on that day. So I keep clicking on the check for update or install this, it wouldn't. It probably will every 12 to 24 hrs, yes I click on it check now, do something lol. Just didn't do anything.
