Home Islands west. A busy day! First off, the landings went well. In spite of the fact that two AKA convoys will begin landing tonight (they had not been ordered to leave Naha with the rest), and that the entire USA 38th Division was left on the docks at Taihoku staring at their ships waiting for the order to load. They are loading now, and will land as soon as possible. No matter, that will simply serve to confuse the Imperial Intel analysts. Taihoku is a large port but cannot dock the convoy in question, still let's call it one day to load (I'll cancel any additional supply loading), 2 to 2.5 days in transit with unloading commencing on that third day.

In keeping with my inovative use of B-29 to sweep away enemy fighters, I have decided to use CVE to clear mines.

Back at Kumamoto there were a number of night air strikes at our fleet, but no damage was taken. Of the convoys present, all but one completely unloaded troops and equipment and that one almost. Supply continues to unload but already beans, bullets, and bandages ashore are plentiful.

They're knackered, but I didn't notice any in danger of sinking save those already fouling local fishermen's lines.

Looking at the opposition at Kumamoto - and I know it can change quickly with the road/rail net - I think we will bust through all right because it is clear terrain and we have lots of bombers hitting it plus the battleships. I'm toying with the idea of making the first attack before that other divisions arrives on scene. What I'm uncertain about is that tank division! But for there to be 6 other divisions there and only ~1,700 total AV means the units are pretty weak. Maybe they are some of the HI reinforcement divisions or something?

No, I don't think Tracker has that. It would be in the combat reports in at least many cases. They must be so below strength I'll just assume they are reconstituted but without the reconstitution. [:'(]

Home Islands west. Except for the USA 38th ID, tardy as mentioned before, all troops are now ashore at Kumamoto and are in fantastic shape. There have been casualties among the ships and will be more but the news is decidedly positive. The 38th loaded with a full complement of supplies and is already at sea one hex from Taihoku. They should begin unloading at Kumamoto on the third day from now. Meanwhile the forces already there will attack tomorrow. Today saw meaningful attrition of the defenders every time the stuck their heads up. The IJ bombardment resulted in 660 casualties, that after a naval bombardment, gunfire support for both troops and supply landing, and air strikes. Tonight two USN old BB and eight USN fast BB will apply their disruptive effect to the defenses.

Farther out, just offshore, a CVE was torpedoed in a night attack, the only ship casualty of the air strikes.

Many night strikes were scattered by fighters, but that one got through. The ships most damaged over the last couple of days are being grouped together into an escort TF bound for Hong Kong. The defenders on the ground are probably in even worse shape than this tally lets on.

Takamatsu now has air support for its size 4 air complex, so three P-47D25 squadron have moved their. One base force will rail from there to Matsuyama, far quicker than trying to march direct.
