Splitting convoys

Post by albricias »

I think this is a bug.

In Guadalcanal scenario, first impulse of turn one, Japan has a 24 points convoy unit in Hong Kong.

I want to break it down in, for example, 3 convoy units of 8 points each.

So, in the naval movement phase, I select the convoy unit, right click on it and, in the emerging window, I select the options Naval Units>Split. Then I choose 8 as "Number of convoy points on each unit" and 2 as "Number of new convoy units", but this is just an example. I can select any number of new convoy units, the result is always identical: only one new convoy unit is created, and previous unit disappears. The new unit has the number of points selected in the "split" menu. The units that should have appeared can be seen in "units in game" "option (ctrl+u) as "future force pool addition", but I think they never become available.

Otherwise, if, in the setup phase, I locate the same 24 points japanese convoy unit in a sea area (China Sea, for example), in the fist impulse of turn one splitting seems to work properly.

I've come across this in the Global War scenario. When splitting CP's I now Ctrl Left-Click to bring up the units in hex form and split them from there. That seems to work.

Allenk, your option really works, it's a good solution. Thank you!

When I click on the saved game, the Matrix forum tells me "file not found". So I tried to recreate this problem using the Fast Start Guadalcanal saved game (20 convoy points in Manila) and the split operation was correct every time. I used the Flyouts, the Naval Review Detailed, and the map direct (convoy unit in top of stack). Everything worked the way it should.

What version of the program are you using? There were some problems once upon a time with splitting convoys (if I remember correctly).

I'm using 2.2.8.

I did't say in my post that problem affect's just at the Flyouts.

As AllenK said, it works right with the control+left click (units in hex form).

And now I've also tried with the fast start, as you described, and the convoy unit in Manila splits properly.

I'll try to save the game again for you; I need to remake the game at that point.

Thank you.

I've attached a new file, hope it works for you. If so, it will reproduce the bug as I described: convoy unit in Hong Kong can't be splitted properly using the flyout; it can be done using the control+left click, but the naval review details also fails.

Otherwise, the three options (flyout, control+left click and naval review details form) works right if, in the setup phase, I put that japanese convoy in a sea area and I split it from there.

Thanks for your time.

Sorry, but I am unable to open this file.[:(] Windows File Explorer reports it is not a 'proper' zip file. How did you create it?

Perhaps I can assist here. It looks like a rar file. I used 7zip to open it.

I've rezipped it and posted it below.

Thanks a lot, BrianJH.

Yes, I had a problem with my expired evaluation Winzip version, so I used Winrar trying to make a zip file, and now I see the error.

I apologize, Shanon, for wasting your time. We all MWIF players depend on your time to get a great game.

In any case, I attach the file again, this time created with a new version of Win zip, although I'm sure the BrianJH file will work great.
