SSG games

Post by ncc1701e »

Are there still fans of SSG games out there? These games were fun but it was a so huge task to design a scenario that not much came with Kharkov.
Shame, will we see something else from them coming?

I'm a fan, and have been since their original Battlefront games came in for the C64 in the mid 80's I think. (not sure of the year)

And I've played their latest games as well. I thought I saw something this past spring or summer about possibly a new game, but I haven't seen or heard anything recently.

Thanks
Rick

The user made Stalingrad scenario for Battlefront I think is such a waste of one amazing looking map as it has no AI> If SSG just made an AI for that map and sold ti I'd buy ASAP..go check the forums to see what I'm talking about...best computer Stalingrad map I've seen.

Big fan of ssg, battles in Italy is my favorite. Loaded them up on win10 a few months ago but everything was too small and no wide screen fix. Shame really as there fun games. Battles in Italy had a bunch of user made stuff.

1986 to be exact on Battlefront. However, I liked their games they did for/under/with SSI better (ie. Germany 1985 series, Southern Command (nearly the same).

But you haven't really played SSG until you play the Rebel Force scenario in Computer conflict (published by SSI in 1980)!

Oddly enough, Unlike a seeming majority, I like the latest iteration of Carriers at War (far more than I did the original (I missed the in-betweens)... But that could be influenced by being the first time I've won a Midway scenario in any game on any computer or on any table.)

In my opinion, they are the best wargame/pc games ever made. Every year I hope that Matrix re-does these (BII, Kharkov, BIN, Korsun Pocket)...

I think I can say SSG are actually working on something at the moment. Though that's all I know.

I still have a few of the original games in a drawer. Rommel and MacArthur for the C64.

They were great games

I also have a number of SSG titles sitting on a shelf in my gaming room. But I doubt we will see many--if any--more games released by SSG. According to MobyGames the last game SSG released was in 2005. And after Ian Trout died in 2011, I gave up hope of seeing any new SSG releases.

I loved the Battlefront games but when they redid them I couldn't get into them

I think they released Kharkov, Disaster on the Donets in 2008 and and expansion Across the Dnepr in 2010.

But I don't recall anything coming out since then.

Thanks

Just go take a look at this Stalingrad scenario map and tell me you wouldn't buy a Stalingrad game that consists of this with an AI?

I'd buy it at a drop of a hat..

Alan, isn't it? One the best maps I've seen for a wargame on the PC and it's going to waste!

I couldn't agree more Jason. I have felt for some time, that with all of the re-hashing, re-releasing of older titles that the SSG library screams for this. The core game play, mechanics, CRT's, modifier tables, etc. are all so outstanding and the AI's, in all of the games are really well done. Until I upgraded to Window's 10, they had a permanent place on my desktop. But now, the limited resolution and smaller windowed mode kills these games for me. I sincerely hope they are going to revisit the entire catalog one day and re-publish it.

Greetings Capitaine,
Stalingrad scenario map for Battlefront
tm.asp?m=1813805

It is interesting to note that the original Battlefront (Commodore C-64 for me) came with Stalingrad scenario with Novorossik as a add on.
Matrixgames/SSG version is reversed.
I owned all the SSG C-64 titles and had all the Run5 magazines and typed in all the free scenario data they provided in each issue.
Run5 link to all downloadable issues: (it is a blast from the past to read the adds for the games)[:)]

The Civil War games were great as well as The War in the East 1941-1945

I also had all of their Battlefront series, their Civil War series and their War in the East. And I still have their Run5 mags sitting on a shelf downstairs.

Thanks
