Managing supply for a newbie

Post by Pionpion »

Hi
I've read in multiple threads that managing supply is key to german success. Advancing FBD is not difficult ; construction units keep pop-up everywhere without obivous logic. How do you manage these units in order to optimize their advance ? Thx.

Probably the best you can do is loading RHG HQs with construction units and move them to rail line you want repair. This way you should be able to get every turn a hex.

As far as I've been able to determine there is some logic to the AI construction units... They will repair the nearest broken railway line provided the AGHQ/GHQ is within friendly rail. Once I've moved my AGHQ and OKH (with extra construction units attached) towards Smolensk, Leningrad and the Ukraine those became the new focal points of the autorepair. As stated the RHG units can give you the finest control, but the have (by far) the shortest range, whilst the OKH has the largest range and thus the least control over where they will end up. the AGHQ are a bit of both.

Thanks.
Do you use all your construction units ? I used to keep some of them in my Corps HQ to help units dig in. But maybe it is useless in early game.

I tend to reassign all of them in 1941 (which takes a few turns to do). According to Denniss it's best to keep one per army HQ however.

BTW, is there a difference between construction bats and Railroad construction bats ? Or do they repair rail on the same basis ? Thx

It takes 50 contruction points to dig to level 1 entrechment .
Take a look at the construction value of those batalions and decide for yourself how uselfull they are .

irc the problem is morale , that is why a pioneer batalion is that more efective .

This is really a good tip for the Germans in 41. [:D]

Yes, because OKH will throw them retardedly without any sense. Well RHG too but due to the short range it doesn't have too many options how to screw up you intentions.
OKH is good in repairing what pesky partisans have damaged.
