Port Slow on loading Oil

Post by scout1 »

Palmberg,

max'd out Port, have a number of Naval engr units there. These don't change in my example/question ....

Tanker TF docks and fills itself with fuel in 2-4 days .....

Exact same TF docks and fills itself with oil in 10+ days ... Why would oil take so much longer to load ? Are they passing it over, one bucket at a time ?

Oil is only available to load on ships if it is in excess of what the resident Refineries demand. Refineries get first claim.

BTW, no foul, but this sub-forum is for reporting suspected bugs. Your question would have been fine in the main forum.

Yes, oil loads slower. That is why it is best to use smaller TKs and AOs (5000-6500 capacity) for this. If you load oil into big ships, they will clog Palembang for days and days.

Palembang is a spoke, the hub is Singers. Use the small boys to get your fuel/oil to Singers. The big guys can then take it from there to wherever you wish. The larger port will handle it better.

To answer your question read 6.3.3.2.1 page 124-125. Also see 6.3.3.2.5 page 126-127.

The load rates for fuel/oil are really the same and they depend on port size. At Palembang (and other similar production centers) these are modified by the oil production for oil and the refinery for fuel. Since the refinery is larger than the oil production there is a slight difference in the load rates. The major reason you're probably seeing a slow oil load rate is that the refinery gets dibs on the oil. Anything left over will then load on tankers. The only reason Palembang will have excess oil is due to the nearby production center that hasn't a refinery, its oil will ship overland to Palembang.

Palembang is limited in port size and is just going to load slowly. You can also build out the port on the tip of Sumatra (forget the name of it now) and oil will flow from Palembang to that port too. Getting oil out of Sumatra will be slow due to port capacities.

That's Oosthaven, and its max size is the same as Palembang. You can get all the oil/fuel/resources out of Palembang if you work it right. I've done it. The key is small vessels which shuttle the items to Singers. Don't load oil 'til it builds up a bit, then load a convoy's worth. Load fuel all the time as there's a lot of it. Heck, I even pull the excess supply (scen1) to Singers. You need to match convoy size to fit port size. You probably can even use CS convoys to do it. I don't, because I'm fussy about who refuels where and when, but that's just me. As for the other oil/fuel sites up the coast I have separate small convoys that shuttle their items to Singers.

Yes, this requires attention, but it is your most important region as it is your fuel pump. If you can't give it the needed attention then maybe checkers is a better game for you.[:D]

Oosthaven is small and slow, but if built up, you get 2X level 4 ports instead of just one. Oosthaven also isn't up a river, though you want smaller tankers for the job anyway.

OK, but as I've said, for me at least Palembang works just fine. To each his/her own. "A thousand players, a thousand ways to play."[:D]

Oil is thicker than fuel, so it flows through the pipes slower. [8|]

No, in the game I think they both flow the same, 500 x port size IIRC. See pages above. Its just that in the game Palembang has more refinery capacity than oil. Load rates are modified by these in ports where they exist. So Palembang will load a bit more fuel than oil each turn. Again see pages above. Also keep in mind that the refinery has dibs on the oil.
