Does it work on Windows 10?

Post by Sieben_slith »

The game ran fine for me on Win 7, but not on 10. It gets as far as the screen with the two faces, then just quits. I do not get the initial screen, the one you have to mouse-click to pass (hope that makes sense).

Any advice would be welcome. I love the game and don't want to give it up.

yes,

all you need to do to get it working in windows 10 is install it in windows 10.

if you have upgraded to windows 10 and it doesn't work, all you need to do is re install the pre requites that come with and are needed with the game.

if it's a fresh install of windows 10, pro or home doesn't matter, version AE (the anniversary edition works fully with the game) as long as you install all the files and updates that come with the game (bundled)

eg pre requites

Got it sorted. The game installer was not installing DirectX 9.0c, so I did it manually. Thanks for your help!

I was afraid I was going to have to learn to play Polaris Sector, which honestly could use a few more patches before it's ready for prime time (or my time, at least).

There's a guide over on the DW Steam community section that helped me with my Windows 10 problems.

What ultimately did it for me was the DirectX installation. The installer does not seem to trigger it.

That is my experience. I tried to install it twice (from a download) and DirectX never installed. My CD would not install at all under Win 10.

I don't know if anything has changed since then, but I installed DWU via Steam on my up-to-date Windows 10 PC and it works great, no issues encountered at all.

Post in the tech support forum, and see if any other issues reported there may fit. Post your dxdiag which you should see about in sticky/recent threads.

Disable intro video is a common fix.
Someone discovered that a sound card is needed (unlikely to be your issue).

for me 9 out of 10 times it's not having either the permissions to do something that stops a given game, wrong Anti Virus type program used etc or the wrong or missing pre requites installed, as most seem to think if they have DRX12 installed, then they don't need any other version, which is wrong, as one doesn't install any of the others either, so always install the pre requites that come with the game, or keep loaded a list of all of them, but then again if you play games from all ages, the list can grow somewhat, as you need the 32bit and 64bit loaded for some to work
