RE: Vichy/Free France
I think the problem is that Minors cannot have Decision Events, only Majors can.
You can fool the engine by making the country id belong to a Major, e.g. the UK, and then use an image which is based on what a normal French Decision would look like, with your own added text.
By inputting the image file's name into the image line, then provided that image is placed in your campaign's Media folder and you've also set your campaign to use customized media in its localization.txt file, then it will show.
However, if you were trying to transfer funds to/from the Minor then this won't be a solution as Minors don't have control over their own MPPs.

P.S. I have a Canadian friend that does not understand that here in the States 'hmmm' means that we are 'thinking'. Just thought I would clarify that [;)]
Interesting, here in the UK I would read it not only as that you are thinking, but that it could also mean that you're not too happy with what you're having to think about. Hopefully not, at least not all the time! [;)]

Ok great, thanks Bill ! I was not trying to transfer MPP's, I was only trying to coordinate the later French DE's and dummy ones that I added by making them 'belong' to Free France [which seems to be uncalled for]. I have straightened things out I think, and will begin to run a test.
RE: Vichy/Free France
Ahah ! Glad I clarified because that is what they think in Canada. My friend told me something and I said 'hmm' [meaning that I had placed my finger on my chin and looked up to the sky while contemplating thoughtfully], and she got offended ! I had to explain that I was just thinking, and not unhappy at all.ORIGINAL: Bill Runacre

RE: Vichy/Free France
The issue with the Decision is because only Majors can have Decision Events.
There is a way to fool the engine, and that is to have the country id set to be a Major (e.g. normal France), to leave the #POPUP= field blank, and instead add an image to the #IMAGE= field.
For the image, use a copy of the one in:
C:\SC3\Strategic Command - WWII War in Europe\Interface\Major_02
Save it somewhere else, and add the relevant text to it.
This way it will look like a Free French decision, even though it's not. This can be used to give the impression of other Minors having decisions too.
PS Decisions cannot be used to add/deduct MPPs from Minors as they don't control their own pools of MPPs.

I've just added a new reply above because I thought my previous one had been lost, I hope some of it might be useful anyway! [:)]

I really like this discussion, one can really learn a lot here - keep it going, please!

I tried Notepad, Wordpad, pdf and xps, which is all I can find on my ruddy cheap western computer. Right now I am leaving this alone, hopefully things will work well in the current test.

Download and install Context, it's a script editing program that both Hubert and I use:
http://www.contexteditor.org/index.php
Then go to the editor.ini file which should be here:
C:\Users\Bill\Documents\My Games\Strategic Command WWII - War In Europe
And set this line as follows:
#SHELL= c:\program files (x86)\context\context.exe
Then your script files will open with Context and you can edit away! [:)]

What are the benefits of the program? I've always used notepad

I also use notepad, but when I got the error shown in Post #58, I had no way of telling which line was #2294. With ContextEditor we can see which line we are on.
RE: Vichy/Free France
Just finished a hotseat run-thru and everything seemed to work as I intended. Except the attempt at Marseilles and Antwerp becoming Primary Supply after liberation. I had the Variable set wrong [France = Surrendered, which is true, but in game turns France actually gets 'liberated' so isn't surrendered]. Not a game killer though, so I've adjusted that and now I am excited to run a full game play thru to see how it goes [8D]
This makes me wonder about canceling events, I don't see a way to do it. Is this sort of handled by the 'Type' flags ? It seems like a slight shortcoming of the script process that events can't be canceled permanently.

RE: Vichy/Free France
I do not know if I have correctly understood what you want to achieve. Maybe you could not tie the original event to a "surrendered_flag" but to an "aligment posisition"? Then Axis or Allies would apply and not being surrendered or not. Only permanent events (Loops, Malta-Effect, Sea-Mines etc.) can be stopped. If necessary also with a dummy event. [&:]

RE: Vichy/Free France
Well, for example, when France is 'liberated' in 1944 then it is no longer considered surrendered for the purpose of event flags. So that can throw some things off a little. Alignment Positions are always susceptible to the variances in game play so are not really optimal. That is why I said that it is a slight shortcoming that events cannot be outright and straightforwardly canceled. You know, if 'this' happens then 'that' is no longer valid. I'm not griping, just making an observation. It's been great fun working on this mod and tinkering with scripts [given that like at least 95% of the work was already completed in exemplary fashion by B&H].

RE: Vichy/Free France
There are limitations but if you want to give an example then maybe we can see if we can work out a way it can be done in game?
