I don't know if it was used in the Pacific theatre at all. the gun was not needed for IJA tanks but might have been good against concrete bunkers.

The firefly was usually referred to as the Sherman V or VC. But that was based on the M4A3 chassis but they used just about any regular Sherman chassis for the conversion so different nomenclature was used for those versions. They basically imported the chassis and turrets and modified the turret. Apparently, the 17 pounder had better penetration that the German 88mm on the Tiger I or the 75mm on the Panther. According to the optimal doctrine, they would provide overwatch aka covering fire for the regular Shermans during their advance.
