Agreed - that is why I have been slow to take offensive action in both the desert and here. As said last turn I have started to move forward but I think I need to halt that. Daugvapils came within a whisker of falling.....

In Yugoslavia a partisan is destroyed.

In the Southwestern Approaches one U-Boat withdraws, but the other sticks around and pays for that decision. Unless he dives and evades, he will have three destroyer flotillas on his case next turn.

In Egypt the pressure remains piled on - the RAF are struggling to cope even with the higher numbers of fighters and bombers. If the Italian infantry had performed better the town of El-Alamein would now be in the hands of the Axis.

The Germans, having re-opened the convoy route to Finland, lose another 11 MPP.

With the coming of spring, aircraft are no longer grounded, and German pressure on the Dvina remains intense. The Soviet air force will need to retreat. Apart from bringing units up to strength, I do not intend to commit any further reserves to this sector and will instead concentrate on Parnu-Tartu-Pskov-Ostrov for my next line of defence.

At least, should it be necessary, this time around Leningrad has a degree of protection from both north and south of the city.

The German plans north and east of Kiev grow ever stranger. The Soviet plan will be to try and ensure that the Germans cannot relieve the trapped forces (I am hoping that I can slowly reduce the pocket, but it does not look straightfoward based on projected nos.).

a) very clear what the quality gameplan was, OR
b) confirmation (if any was needed) that I am to quality wargaming what Pearl Harbor is to serious historical drama.

One Corps only lost this turn. The Lower Dnepr does not worry me too much. There are choke points here even if the Germans get beyond the river. Further north, where the Germans are across, and firmly established, is more tricky as there are no further river lines unless I pull back to the Don - not something I want to do at this stage.

One of the Wolf Packs that was causing mayhem in the Norwegian sea tries to get back to Germany using the comfort of Norwegian waters. The 16th and 3rd flotillas keep track of the pack, follow them to the entrance to one of the many fjords, corner them and sink each in turn.

The Wolf Pack caught in the Western Approaches is far luckier and receives only minor damage from three destroyer attacks.

Meanwhile the US Fleet and convoy is heading ever closer to the Eastern Meditteranean.....

I won't use separate pictures for the Axis turn as this seemed to be something of a consolidation turn. There were attacks of course but I suspect most units were being rested for a big push once the weather is right.

There is no doubting the big news from the Pacific furreal do.


Four months ago on 7th December 1941 World War II started. Rafe McCawley has vowed to finish it.

There was no activity from the U-Boats this turn, although intelligence reports a wolf pack sighting off northwest Spain. This must have been a pack previously attacked as the surviving boats were quickly found by the 1st Escort Flotilla and sunk.

In Egypt its a consolidation turn - all MPP are used to reinforce the army and air force there.

The breach between the two panzergruppen has been made wider but I still cannot break down the panzer unit that has been trapped now for about three turns. Not sure what the Germans have around Kiev to be honest....
