Withdraw & Redeploy

Post by DWReese »

I have a question pertaining to using missions. There is a button called Withdraw and Redeploy. I understand the basic concept, but what are the specific details. If a unit's weapons (for example) fall below a certain level, then the unit will "withdraw."

Looking at just surface ships for a minute:
1.) How far do they withdraw? Do they head to a supply ship?
2.) Does an individual ship leave the rest of the Task Force that they are with?
3.) Or, if the withdraw instructions apply to the whole Task Force, does the entire Task Force head back to its base?
4.) If it doesn't head to its base, or a supply ship, then what instructions is the task Force given?
5.) In other words, where, on the map, does it withdraw to?
6.) Is this the same thing as a game-ending retreat?

Just a little detail would be helpful.

Thanks.

I have played around with this a bit but am no expert. What I have found is:

Base, I have not tried to link to a supply ship but I don't think so.

Yes, you get a message to that effect and the unit detaches from the TF and heads home independently
3.) Or, if the withdraw instructions apply to the whole Task Force, does the entire Task Force head back to its base?

No just to the single ship that makes the withdraw threshold.
4.) If it doesn't head to its base, or a supply ship, then what instructions is the task Force given?

It heads to its home base. I think (but am not sure) that if it does not have a base assigned it picks the closest.

Thank you for the info. That was helpful.

The Spratly scenario has a retreat mission, but unless the proper requirements are met, then the Task Force continues forward, even though its missiles (SAMs an SSMs) have been depleted. As I understand it, if I assign a Withdraw order to the Group, then the Group would turn and head for home long before it ever got into gun range of the opposition.

It would be nice if the Group would turn an go collectively, rather than independently.

Thanks again.

The withdrawl in the scenario had nothing to do with the ammo settings but some conditions in some lua code. Take a look in there and see the logic behind it. Its based on losses.

Thanks!

Mike,

I completely understand the LUA, and the RETREAT command that was to follow. When the order was finally issued, none of the ships on the Allied side could move any longer.

The LUA command was not the point that I was trying to explore today. What I was trying to explore was if the Chinese group had lost a significant amount of their weapons due to other battle outcomes, could the Mission Editor use the Withdraw orders to send the Group back by to their base EVEN before the official RETREAT order was official through LUA.

Can't the LUA be programmed to essentially do the same thing as the Mission Editor's withdraw order, i.e. send the ships back to their base after most of their missiles are expended?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Doug

I'm not sure if the calculation involved with the Withdrawl ROE's looks at destroyed weapons/mounts. It might just look at what's actually still there. Might be something we can look at though at some point.

You can definitely use lua scripting to accomplish exactly the same thing and couple of different ways to your liking. We added lua to give players the ability to do stuff like that without having to stalk us.

Thanks!
