Unable to Access Seeking Opponent Database

My opponents computer shows the error "Unable to access Seeking Opponent database." when logging into the netplay forum.

He has no special firewall, no special PC software, is on Windows 7, 16GB RAM, i5 CPU. We tried reinstalling the game, installed 1.1.0.0 and then upgraded straight to the new Beta 2.3.0. Applied hotpatch for version 2.3.1. He still gets the error.

After getting the error, he can see me logged in, but neither of us can see him logged in. My PC does not have this issue.

How do we fix this?

Make sure that what you are using as your Matrix Games login (userid and password) is identical in your game.

You can update the file in the C:\Matrix Games\World in Flames\NetPlayReg.txt

The first line is your userid and the second line is your password

These need to match as you will not login separately. It just happens automatically.

Both the username and password must match case-wise as well as character-wise to what is in the Netplay forum for the username and password.

And when starting the game you have to ensure you put the other player's username in for the other side.

If still no luck, Matrix customer support should be able to fix things.

It seems his forum username and password are different than his matrix login.

The matrixgames login is greater than 20 characters (his email address) <- forbidden by MWIF
The forum login does not work to login to netplay.
His PC can login with my username and password


Not sure how this will be fixed. A support ticket has been submitted from his account.

1. His forum username is a single word. This username and password combination does not let us login to multiplayer.
2. His Slitherine username is his first name and last name with a space in between them.
3. Slitherine asked us to unify his account, even though it appears that the problem is with the username, which we stated in the support request.

His account appears to be unified, but the new username (first+space+last) doesn't allow us to login to slitherine or the forums. He can only login to slitherine with his email. We were very clear in this in our support request. His username with a space in it cannot login to either site.

Now we are stuck. Doing technical support for someone else who is computer illiterate does make this quite a bit harder.

Should we open a new support ticket? Recommendations?

If you are able to change the usernames without the support desk being involved, I'd suggest getting rid of the space character. It may be non-allowed and I've had experiences with it in changing username/passwords where despite no error message being returned, the change did not occur.

MWIF is looking to match the player's Slitherine username. The email address wouldn't work.

It would be easy for me to modify MWIF to accept a username longer than 20 characters. How long is his username?

At the same time I would make it possible to have blanks in a username.

My opponent had the exact same problem and he had Slitherine tech support to tell him the correct user name. It's not an email address. They messed his up during some sort of conversion.

There are two checks on the user name and password. The first is done by MWIF (my code) and your user name passes those checks. MWIF then transmits your user name and password to the Slitherine Forum/server, which generates the 08 error message. MWIF would generate a 108 error message - which it does not.

So, this is outside of my ability to diagnose and fix. You will have to check with the Slitherine Help Desk. I'm sorry I can't fix this for you.

By the way, all the Slitherine error codes for a failed login are below. You can see that 08 is quite specific.

The most recent occurrences were solved by contacting Matrix customer support. Seems they were due to old, unused for some time username/passwords that were still in their database.

OK Thanks. In the last few minutes I solved it. This is what I had to do.

1. Take note of the password in the NetPlayReg.txt
2. Login to the slitherine website and merge this account with the matrix login account.
3. Change my password in the merged account to be exactly the same as in the NetPlayReg.txt file.
4. Log out of all accounts and wait a few minutes for all of this to synchronise.

Then I was able to see the "Seeking Opponent Database"

In all I spent 2.5 hours of my Sunday working this all out
