It's much the same story in the south. The only real offensive action taken has been to try and destroy 14th Army. For the rest of the front, reinforce and upgrade are vital.

Allies landed in Sicily and Italy before they landed in Normandy. Step up the tempo and minor landings before the major invasion, Maybe Norway that Germany has a hard time reinforcing. Although the terrain might disqualify Norway?

The British, US and Kiwi troops find the Krgyl and end the last Piece of Resistance in Cyrenaica, while lead elements of the US II Corps are closing in rapidly on Tripoli.

Yes, sorry I thought you meant the main event. I will be landing in Sicily as soon as Tripoli falls.

Just a couple of things to report in the Soviet Union. Between Brest-Litovsk and Minsk, 16th Army has been surrounded.

Meanwhile in the Ukraine, 14th Army has finally ceased to exist.

These moves aside, it all been about reinforcing and upgrading.

Goodness! The Ukrainians are revolting! The Soviets took a load of hits around Kiev from Ukrainians that would appear to be a tad miffed at Soviet rule.

The wolf pack that had been mauled off Spain has been destroyed. The 22nd Destroyer Flotilla was sent to the entrance of the Channel in case the U-Boats sought to get back to Germany via the English Channel - they did and the submariners paid the price.

The German moves at the neck of the Crimean Peninsular were sound - although the units south of the Dnepr are clearly there to die. But to the east, the Soviets are likely to bag a number of German units....

Well its been threatening to happen for sometime.....

The 1st Mechanised Corps breaks out from its starting point southeast of Kremenchuk and makes contact with up with the 70th Rifle Corps, sealing the pocket containing the 2nd Romanian Army, two German infantry corps and the elite Fallschirmjager Detachment 'Student'. III Corps south of Dneprpetrovsk is then made the focus of the Soviet attack from both sides of the pocket and severely weakens the German unit.

The Soviets cannot bring further units south to support the western edge of the pocket as 8th Army hold firm. But even so, things look grim for the encircled units.....

To the north, XVI Corps obeys the Fuhrer order and attempts to make a fortress of Kiev. "That's nice" say the Soviets and simply bypass the Ukrainian capital. There is no offensive action however as the Soviets seek to repair the damage caused by the Ukrainian Nationalists. In response, Stalin has ordered a special present for the people of the Ukraine....


There must be more attractive places to be right now for the officers and men of the 1st and 3rd Romanian Armies....

Can anyone see a flaw in the German plan?

The German decide that the Soviets are ripe for an encirclement west of Minsk. A good old fashioned pincer movement is launched with one tinsy-winsy problem....no one told the southern pincer to move... indeed I don't think anyone bothered to form a southern pincer....

4th - 25th February 1943

The Soviets react. Totally disinterested, the units east of Minsk continue moving east away from the advancing Germans. The 2nd Light Tank Corps and the 13th Rifle Corps are ordered to block the road leading into Minsk from the west. Not seen in this picture but 19th Rifle Corps are ordered to Bobruysk to block any further movement east by the German northern pincer.

The 1st Shock Tank Army are ordered to seal off the approaches from Brest-Litovsk. Meanwhile 22nd Army are ordered to strike out west for Grodno - and come across a Luftwaffe airfield placed too close to the front.
