How do you search this forum?

Post by Dragoastro »

All my efforts to search using the search function result in "The system could not find any record".

hi! [:)]

the forum search is broken for almost 2 months now - something happened while moving from servers...
(...really hope the web admins gone searching for the problems haven't gone missing, too...)

only search 'By Author' is still working - so you'll be able to find at least masterpieces of information by Alfred et al.

you could still try to use your favorite search engine with that:

Code: Select all

site:www.matrixgames.com/forums your-search-term-here

but that doesn't go as deep as one wishes. [&:]

let's put some more pressure on 'em missing web admins - not?! [:D]
chem!
Thank you for that link!

I tried to search for Alfred's posts and came up empty. "Masterpieces of information" is a good description. If he made a book out of just his posts on this forum he'd probably turn quite a profit.

Alfred and several forum volunteers were working on an updated manual but that seems to have stalled. I fear Alfred may have lost some of his zeal when his advice on the forum was not responded to because his tone was brusque. I hope forumites can find the spirit to look past the tone (that's just his manner of delivery and it is not going to change) and find the nuggets of advice.

Another part of the issue seems to be that Alfred often does not tell all - he leaves enough clues that you are expected to go research the sources and get the rest of the story. Unfortunately, most of us are not as skilled at research as he is, in part because the search methods require you to use precise wording that you may not know. The only advice I have here is to use alternative wording if you searches don't yield results.

Nothing wrong with Brusque. One more nugget in the gold mine.

It would be helpful if the "Search in Forum" box was made bigger.

That is my biggest complaint about the search function - it takes forever to find the WITP-AE forum because the scroll button is too fast and the window too small. The text on sub-forum titles is similar so you have to look carefully to make sure you are in the right place.

I figure the forum software itself (which is likely not created by Matrix) was designed for use by companies that only needed a few forums for their products. Matrix obviously offers more than a little window-full.

Awesome idea ChemKid! Internet Explorer also has a right click "Inspect Element" function.
