Vichy France

Post by bo »

I have always excepted the Vichy declaration of surrender in all of my war games and have in the new SC2 several times, is there any advantage of not accepting the Vichy surrender in this paticular game?

For what reason would you continue to fight French troops in the rest of France, would appreciate positive or negative ideas about why to continue fighting or not.

For one if you continue the fight and knock France out of the war entirely you can bring Spain into the Axis camp via decision event.

That would be nice crispy if Spain joined me but I am afraid it would put the Russian campaign in delay do to the extra fighting. Is there an advantage to getting Algiers because of no Vichy decision.

Bringing Spain into the Axis, capturing Gibraltar and controlling Algiers will cut off the Allies from entering the Mediterranean from the Atlantic. That is the main advantage.

Personally I like to accept Vichy so I haven't explored the alternatives very much.

I'd like to either pressure Spain or attack and take Gibraltar and close the entrance to the Med. That would assist the Italians greatly. Then the Suez Canal and then Russia from the south.

It's easyish to get Spain into the Axis via regular diplomacy. It takes 5-6 chits worth of investment but I think that's cheaper than the decision event you get after conquering France.

Very expensive decision, though, and delays things for Russia

If you capture Algiers prior to taking Paris ... all of France will surrender if you don't accept Vichy. I personally always go for this approach and can still launch a Russian attack in April '41. It does require that Italy join the Axis very quickly.

That's sounds like a very interesting strategy. Might I ask how you capture Algiers and is there any potential downside to doing this? Also, what happens to the French Navy when all of France surrenders at the same time?

I am currently trying to get Vichy France to join the Axis with diplo pressure. It's September 1942 and I have her at 69% leaning on the Axis side.

I am hoping to get Spain to join next...

Has anyone gotten Vichy France to join the Axis?

I have them at 84% with 8 chits (5 German and 3 Italian) invested.

I had fewer chits invested in prior turns since I was also trying to move Spain along at the same time when I had Vichy France at 69%, but nothing was happening with either effort until I moved my chits from Spain to Vichy France and then Boom! a jump to 84%!
