Q: Is there a over arching guide to the directory / folders / subfolders

Post by Macclan5 »

Hi Friends.

Having successfully become a 1 star Admiral against the AI I am starting to look at mods for the first time.

1) The Beta patch

2) Art work

3) Map mods

There are a number of "good" and "partially explicit" instructions usually included on the download site of the mod itself....

But for a relative techno - peasant driving a 1978 diesel VW on the information super highway.... [8D]

I was kind of looking for a thread that says describes what each folder does / has in terms of files type or resources... and if I back up my originals (always recommended) .. how I ensure new stuff in the folder speaks to the game engine...

For example the Beta patch is recommended to run in a sub directory... but am I confident that my art work from the main directory is drawn as a resource ??

Correct. The beta .exe is run from the Beta2 subdirectory, but you'll notice that it requires a shortcut to run that tells it to use the directory above that (the main game directory) as its "home" folder (this is what the "start in" line in the shortcut does).

If you back up the folders prior to changing anything, you'll be fine.
