Fighters not fighting

Post by juntoalmar »

Hi,

In the game I'm playing this just happened:

- Germany sends some Stukas to Ground Strike. German player saves GAM and asks me if France wants to intercept.
- France opens the file, send 4 fighters and save to a different GAM file
- When Germany opens the file, the french fighters are correctly in the hex, but no air combat happens (neither Germany is asked to intercept them).

Playing 2.2.8

The short term solution is to have one player go through the sending of fighters (for both sides) based on what the opponent says he wants to have happen. Saving and restoring games within an air mission may or may not work. What the program does is to build a list of major powers that can fly fighters at the start of an air mission (CAP subphase) and later which major powers can fly bombers, and later still fly interceptors. That all gets rather complicated because of the rules on number of air missions, multiple major power being able to fly air units, rules on cooperation, and other convoluted rules on which units can do what where when.

The code works if the air mission is done as a whole, without stopping for saving and restoring the game. It would take some work tracking down what went wrong in your game. Hopefully you will find the simpler process I mentioned above as a viable alternative to saving and restoring the game.

Hi Steve,

Yes, we solved it that way. I just told the German player what I wanted to do, and he could execute the whole combat.

Kind regards,
