What did I do right?
I reacted well to the situation, throwing out my cunning plan. I was surprised by the length of my order phases.
My use of fire support was very good. I should have conducted the mine mission earlier, but overall the MLRS did a ton of damage to the soviets.
I kept attacking the depth of the soviet force – getting some key victory points while avoiding the remaining Soviet AD units.
What could I improve on?
Use of Kiowas – I left them in location too long – they were easy targets.
I underestimated the speed that the Soviets would move at. Their advance was so quick that my plan was out the door about an hour in.
I need to figure out how to move the AH so that I`m maximizing their abilities.
The Apaches are much stronger than the Cobras. I lost a lot of Apaches (7 out of 9), partly because I left them in place too long while the 2S6s we close by…
Thoughts on the scenario/game
It was a very fast paced scenario. The longer order cycles was challenging and left me wishing for more time.
Having MLRS and A-10s was fun.
The soviet plan was a good one – advance quickly to Westerbruck! They even used the forested route very well. They must have known that they were facing AH, as their AD units were well forward.

I think that I`m going to try this one again. I will modify my plan slightly - after I think a little...
This was fun.

Second Try
I`m going to be a little more cautious - initially.
Idea is to bring helicopters into locations along the ridge, but not into sight of soviets right away
Try to get a scout helicopter to get a long range view of the soviets
MLRS to lay early minefield near Erbelegen
Apaches to take out tanks
Cobras to take out Fire support and HQs

So, I did not save and then hit start without plotting moves for my forces - silly me. So, I restarted using the same initial plans.

RE: A Few Good Choopers
It is an interesting and challenging scenario.
In the first one, I took more chances with my AH and lost more of them, but caught the soviets in the open, where I could do more damage – both from direct fire from the AH and from having more observed fire from the MLRS.
In the second go round, I was much more cautious. I lost less of my force, but the soviets were able to speed into Westerbruck. If they had spread out more in the town, they would have suffered less damage from my MLRS strikes.

I was looking at trying one of the Origins 2016 scenarios - but it says that I do not have the right maps. How do I get them?
Thanks,
Mike

Capn Darwin,
Awesome, it worked. Thank you.
Now I have to decide between Blackhorse or the first Origins scenario...
Have a good day,

Continuing your march through the blood drenched battlefields of West Germany...these are great reads!
It always surprises me how much differently the scenarios can play from one time to the next. You change your actions and the AI does too. [&o] [&o] [&o]
Good Hunting.

RE: A Few Good Choopers
MR,
Thanks again. The scenarios are very interesting, I love the variety.
I was an instructor for a number of years at the Canadian Artillery school and I would have loved to have this game to use in the classroom. I used TacOps and spent lots of time developing and running exercises with our computer training systems. This game would have been perfect.
All the best,
Mike
