I have a picture of my Klingon warrior with his Bat'leth. Really fun to see a 13 year-old nearly stroke out when he sees what his present is!

Finally got a turn done last night and sent it to Dan. Two major operations running right now. The Japanese carrier fleet is spotted two days east of Sorong. Not good. The Japanese force approaching Ramree Isle is NOT spotted and it shall bombard the base tomorrow. NICE!

Will run morning the turn and see what the developments are and then do a serious Post.

OK. I may start a firestorm of controversy here but I have to say the BEST Star Trek Series is hands down Deep Space Nine. Most enduring and impressive characters, great story lines, and fantastic 7 year story arc. I really loved Next Gen starting Season 3 and LOVED Voyager after Seven joined the cast.

Enterprise had real potential but the writer's strike killed what chance it had by shortening its 4th Season. Too bad really because it was a lot of fun watching the formation of the Federation.

Star Trek: Discovery will be going soon. Who knows regarding that...

I hope this wasn't the 'serious post' you alluded to earlier, John. Put. Down. The. Reefer. [:-]

DS9 WAS the best. I'll stand with ya there John :)

The thing that made Star Trek was the conflict among the crew, imo... Kirk/Spock/Bones in TOS. TNG was overboard on the "friendly happy family". DS9 had interpersonal conflict in spades and was great because of it.

I would say that TNG had some of the best Star Trek episodes of all, but collectively as a series, I agree that DS9 was the best. Like many of the iterations, the first 2 seasons were iffy, but once the Cardassian War starts up, the writing excelled.

TNG's "Best of Both Worlds" was a fantastic 2-parter, but character wise - Quark was pretty interesting. So was Garak. Loved any episode he was in. Favorite DS9 was "In the Pale Moonlight" - "issa faaaaakkkkeeeeee" :)

I'm a big fan of DS9 as it had so many cultures represented that the plot was easy to get hooked on. TNG was good as you got away from the Kirk centered Star Trek in the original series. Voyager was my 2nd favorite.

This is what I am talking about. Cannot get a bunch of commentary on turn stuff but if one throws down on Star Trek, the Posts get ROCKING!

I love the Dominion War in DS9 but I think Season 3 of Next Gen was the single best season ever done in Star Trek. You've got Yesterday's Enterprise (my favorite), the Defector, Best of Both Worlds, The High Ground. GREAT Episodes.

Got a turn in with Dan and hoping for a second one today. Want to do a serious Post at that point.

Think his Burma pilots were stunned to see over 100 Hot Shot Japanese ZERO pilots in the skies over Southern Burma. Got a few new IJN ACES on April 16, 1944.

BIG action in tomorrow's turn: Burma and Sorong.

Alright [stands tall] I will.

[doubles over with pain] Oww! My knee! That happens whenever I stand abruptly.

The whole purpose of Star Trek is extraterrestial exploration and discovery. The concept of a stationary blob acting as a mixing vessel for the cosmos is interesting, but doesn't lend itself well to the Star Trek universe, IMO. Yeah, they added in the rounstabout craft and the fighting with the Cardasians, but it just started off on a failed premise and didn't really engage beyond that.

ST:TNG was as good as it got. Much of the original Star Trek was kind of interesting and, certainly for the day and time, unique. But the severely throttled special effects budgets detracted from the story telling, IMO.

ST:TNG had an interesting and diverse cast, including an extraordinarily gifted lead actor (Stewart) as Captain and explored great topics that were-at the time-groundbreaking or at the very least timely. DS9 was so much rehash and struggled at inovation by comparison.

We've been working our way through Voyager and we have enjoyed that. It suffers from a bit too much "PC" at times, but it's not bad. At least they have cleaned their slate and can discover things in another quadrant of the galaxy. Explore new civilizations and boldly go. DS9 claims none of those things.

Caveats: Haven't seen any "Enterprise" yet. My comments also only pertain to television series. All extrapolation to movies with these casts is unintended and a totally separate topic.

Question for other StarTrek dorkwads like myself out there: Do you think that your preferred series had to do with when you were 'coming of age' on the topic? Would the proverbial millennials think ST:TNG was the best by virtue of their age and exposure to something new, or would they think "Enterprise" was better because of temporal bias?

Compared to Season 5?

Season 4: Night Terrors (probably my second favorite episode); Clues

Season 5: Darmok, Unification I and II; Cause and Effect (my personal all-time favorite); I Borg; The Inner Light; Time's Arrow (I)

There's really no comparison between season 3 and 5, IMO. [:'(]

The Inner Light and its companion Lessons are fantastic. Admit I shed a tear or two or three watching Inner Light. It is one of my Top Five for TNG. Darmok and language is fantastic. My eldest (7th Grade) saw that his Social Studies class was going to talk about Gilgamesh. He immediately asked if he could bring the disk that has Darmok on it and the teacher LOVED it.

Season Three is the breakout season for TNG. GREAT stuff.

How far are you into Voyager?

The Inner Light was just...beautiful in its humanity. Just beautiful.

How can you not be grabbed by the first 30 seconds of this episode though? I remember watching this one live with my friends and sitting slack jawed looking at one another. Riveting! [8D]

ETA: We're midway through the first season of Voyager. We'd seen dribs and drabs live in the past, but are working our way through each sequential episode.

Inner Light and Lessons are two of my favorite TNG episodes. Cause and Effect was a great one as well, although the final solution (pips on the collar, I think) stretched it a bit. Plus, Frasier in the captain's seat.

I wondered, myself, before DS9 started, how they would "explore" the cosmos in a stationary space station. I thought the wormhole was a supremely fantastic idea. It set DS9 apart - in that - instead of "seeking out" civilizations, they were able to "bring the civilizations to DS9". Little different twist, same result.

Oh, and ftw - best episode in all the series (better than Best of Both Worlds that I said above) was TOS's "Balance of Terror". It was a classic "destroyer vs. a sub" battle, only with spaceships :)
