Sentry Mission

Hello to all;

among the commands-functions that could be assigned to a unit, even a land one, there's the "sentry" one.

I've failed meanwhile to find its explanation in the manuals (and forum alike).

Intuition suggests that a unit in such mode may react automatically to an enemy attacking one of the hexes in its Zoc while occupied by a friendly one, and move there; a sort of reserve mission;

True - untrue - something completely different?

No it is a game function that basically says: "I'm happy where this unit is so please don't suggest it to me for movement when I click the red arrows at the top, looking for units that have yet to move this impulse." Convoy points that move to sea are automatically put on sentry because they are not obligated to return to base at the end of a turn unlike other ships in the zero box of a sea section.

Yes, as Paul answered, is the "Don't bother me with this unit" mode. Mostly used with convoys that will stay at sea and you don't want to move them or return to base. But you can use it whenever is useful to you. You have a militia in South Africa you are happy to leave there? Bang.
