During the last two days, El Lobo has increased the Japanese Assault Value at Shwebo from 729 to 1,675. I suspect that he is going to try to move a couple Guards Divisions behind the Allied lines (behind Shwebo) to interdict Allied supply flowing from India into Burma. The Allies will counter by moving a Chinese Corps and British Infantry Division to block the Japanese should they attempt to advance behind Shwebo. It might be a close race.

Question for The War College

The Japanese 1st RTA Division is located in a jungle hex on the road at hex 56,50 near Toungoo. The Allies have parts of the Burma Corps (582 Assault Value) in the same hex.

Does anyone happen to know the likely Assault Value of the 1st RTA Division and if they are a good fighting Division?

The RTA divisions are poor at game start, but by 1943 they should have filled out their TOE, gained experience to the 50 level (or more if they have been in combat) and have good morale. Figure them for about 150 AV +/- 20. Quality of leadership depends on whether your opponent swapped out their original commander.

They don't have many heavy weapons and very little anti-tank stuff. Your call on how to handle them.

BBfanboy-

Considering the Japanese are in the jungle and my Burma troops are not the best fighters this side of Toledo, Allied AV at 3 times the 1st RTA Division AV might not be too productive.

Thank you for the information.

I don't think you want to hauling along or landing those Marine Def battalions. They are not assault troops and should really be used on island or base defence. Anybody any differing views??

RE: Guam Order of Battle

I don't think you want to hauling along or landing those Marine Def battalions. They are not assault troops and should really be used on island or base defence. Anybody any differing views??

pontiouspilot-

I like that "Order of Battle." I am going to steal that heading for future posts regarding Order of Battle.

The Amphibious Assault landing forces will hit the beaches of only the four Southern Marianas Islands (Saipan, Tinian, Rota, and Guam). I am hoping to land enough supply with the landing forces to last them three to four months. Immediately after all troops have unloaded on the beaches, the entire Naval Force, including all Carriers, will head back to the Hawaiian Islands. I anticipate substantial damage to ships and the Surface Combat Ships will need to be rearmed. Consequently, I anticipate that the ground forces on the four Southern Islands will not have any Naval nor Air support for three to four months.

On the enemy hand, El Lobo will still hold Agrihan, Pagan, Almagan, and Anatahan. Additionally, El Lobo will be closer to home for his Carriers and Combat Surface Ships to repair damage and rearm. In the event of a major sea battle, El Lobo will be in a better position to get home, put on his makeup, and get back to the Marianas Islands faster than can the Allies. Consequently, Allied ground forces will possibly be vulnerable to Japanese bombers from the four Northern Marianas Islands and from El Lobo's Carriers. Further, Allied ground forces will possibly be vulnerable to bombardments from Japanese Surface Combat Task Forces.

The Marine Defense Battalions are landing to protect Allied ground forces at Guam from enemy Aircraft Bombing Raids and Naval Bombardment Raids. Having substantial Anti-Aircraft and Coastal Guns on the four Southern Islands might sting El Lobo enough to convince him to stay away from the four Southern Islands. If not, then hopefully he will pay a price for conducting Bombing and Bombardment raids.

Also, hopefully, on or about September 15, 1943, Allied Naval forces will return to load troops for the invasion of Formosa on or about October 15, 1943. I will want Marine Corps Defense Battalions on Formosa for the same reasons I want them on Guam. Having the Marine Defense Battalions already at Guam leaves more Allied transport ships to transport supply and fuel to the four Southern Marianas Islands, and supply to Formosa with the Formosa Invasion Fleets.

At this point, I haven't decided whether I will land all ground forces at once, or if I will land only infantry and tanks first and a second wave landing will land the balance of the land forces and supply. I could use help from The War College on that matter.

Best Regards,

-Terry

A Couple Comments

El Lobo is on the road pushing North in an effort to capture the intersection of the road between Mandalay and Lashio. The Japanese have 1,060 AV and have been stopped dead in their tracks one hex short of the intersection.

The 20th Indian Division is 34 miles from Lashio. Upon the 20th's arrival at Lashio on April 13, 1943, the Allies will have 2,497 AV compared to Japanese AV of 549. The Allies will deliberately attack Lashio on April 14th with 4 to 1 AV.

In a few more days, the 29th British Brigade (189 AV) and 268th Motorized Brigade (90 AV) will arrive at Lashio.

In further review of your Shark proposed order of battle I see that you ignored my advice about including Cndn troops. They do not belong...they will chase the natives, not pay their bar bill and will not leave the beach!!.........the only safe place to put them is Alaska.

pontiouspilot-

Hell.

I will be right in step with those Canadians chasing the native skirts with them.

They are Japanese bars. They deserve to be stiffed on the bar bills.

They might leave the beach if they run out of beer.

The Black Watch will take rota.
