How are Combat Results calculated?

Post by solops »

Nowhere can I find any mention of how this game actually resolves combat. Does it take into account armor thickness, trajectory and shell size? Morale and national doctrine? How is off-map artillery zeroed in, i.e what is the spread on a barrage and how does it vary from nation to nation and by caliber/range? There is a lot of unanswered stuff about the game. Having never played ASL, comparing it to that game does not help. The things that stick in my mind from comments on the net are: (1) Poor UI that gives inadequate on-screen info about units and (2) Poor AI, especially on offense. Before I shell out $50 I need better info than Matrix provides on its game description page.

i'll try.

armor thickness. yes
trajectory idk
shell size yes
moral yes
national doctrine idk
in game you find a radio with an officer. click on spot for where you want OBA to land. right click on radio which has to connect to battery.
if successful then OBA lands next turn. seriously i have never had a 'successful' OBA strike...meaning its never landed where i told it to.
poor UI: not poor different
poor AI: AI good on defense only.

and some people will come and they will know a whole lot more than me.

if you haven't watched youtube videos then i suggest you do that to get a better picture

casebier: Thanks for the reply. That sounds good, as far as it goes. One of the complaints I have seen is having to spend an inordinate amount of time looking up the combat values of units while moving because the UI does not display them on the counters.

The Woodlands, eh? My brother and one of my brother-in-laws live there. I used to live off of Louetta near Champion Forest for 10 years.

There are mods that can help you with getting a feel for the combat values. Peter is also working on an Update were he will supply a probability chart to use in-game for Ordnance firing.

originally from waxahachie/metroplex.

moved to the woodlands a little over 10 years ago when i took a job with UH.

nice area...until Exxon HQ moved in.

its becoming a mess.

TotH seems accurate to what i know concerning combat values. i've learned to
turn those off and just fire and maneuver. very successful save for a bad habit
of walking my men in front of MGs...bad habit in board games too.

if you grab mods, some have combat values on them.

tm.asp?m=4036287&mpage=5

and if you look on preceding page there is an explanation for armor values. look
near bottom of page in white.

tm.asp?m=4036287&mpage=4&key=

all in all i like TotH very much and spend a lot of time playing it.
