World in Flames is the computer version of Australian Design Group classic board game. World In Flames is a highly detailed game covering the both Europe and Pacific Theaters of Operations during World War II. If you want grand strategy this game is for you.

Question about screens

Post by Joseignacio »

Long ago, when I installed the game, I had it in my laptop, and I connected to it as well, an additional screen. It worked fine, and it was much more enjoyable...

... but now I have it in my desktop. The desktop uses the additional screen I had previously used to complement the laptop's.

Can I connect the laptop to my desktop and use it as a second screen for the game running in the desktop or do I need to install the game and patch it again in my laptop to do as I did before?

It depends on how Windows treats the laptop monitor.

If Windows let you scroll the mouse from the Desktop monitor over to the Laptop monitor, then MWIF should have no trouble with you using two monitors and the game installed on the Desktop.

My computer didn't seem to let me allocate the laptop screen as a second screen.

So I finally installed and patched the game to my laptop and connected it to my TV, and it works fine...

Another question...

Although the recen patch was working fine for me (I hadn't quickpatched it by then), the game suddenly got hanged, but totally hanged, I couldn't even close the game without the Task Manager. I knid of remember this was spoken of, earlier. Was there some problem when you had some displays (like the game menu) in one screen and others in another?

It happened to me twice in a row, the I tried reorganizing the screens differently and it has not happened since. It had came early in the game, I was scrapping the first or second country when it froze...

Only the positioning of the Main Form is important. It should be on top of a screen, somewhere in the middle (not in the left or right corner). Perhaps that's your problem...

I guess the big question is on top of what screen.

And that's something I don't know, since I only have 1 monitor...

Another possible issue here is you only replaced the EXE with the hotpatch EXE, but if you don't download and install the original 2.3.4 from the members club - in its entirety - you will have loads of problems (voice of experience).

Then after that, you replace the EXE with the latest hotpatch.

Here's the link to the 2.3.4 posting: tm.asp?m=4224827

Wow. I just made a new installation, then 2.4.0 then hotpatch I believe (I made two installations, first destop and when I couldn't configure the screens the way I wanted, the laptop so I am a bit confused. I will follow your advise and reinstall from 0.

Thx.

Reinstall version 1.0 (from disk or download).
Install 2.3.4 update
Replace MWIF.exe with 2.3.5 patch

I believe 2.3.4 is a complete install and contains all that came before.

I was not sure if you could just install it fresh as most installation require the original (1.0) to be in place to upgrade.

I have not needed to start over, so it has always been an upgrade for me.
