I always firmly believed this to be the case: I stacked planes from lowest to highest altitude something like this:

oscar, zero, jack, tony, frank, george. Since I had them, I almost always used a bait squadron of Oscars down very low.

Sometimes I would shield the best fighter I had, the Frank, by putting it into the 2nd highest altitude band of my layer with the hopes it didn't get jumped on.

I am curious if you can shield sentai this way, then it might make sense to put the disposable planes on the bottom and the top of your layer.

Follow was the problem?

Well, it's a stack of 300k following one unit, but the unit set to follow changed direction. So it went with armor up the road and the rest of the stack continued on in the correct direction. I hadn't heard of that one before, but follow is just fraught with problems as I see it. I only calculate movement with individual units and go. If some are a day or two late that's better than 20 armor units heading off the wrong way! [:D]

I add the CR mainly to show the info from one of the three about how the planes are climbing and if any are scrambling. When set to 50% Low CAP the Jacks at 5k scrambled but not the other two layers. I thought that was interesting.

The bottom 2 layers scrambled in test three with Tony low and Jacks middle.

The n is low, but this is how we find interesting things to look at further. It can be pretty clear even in 3 tests that there are differences. I'll test more for Jacks high with a high layered CAP, which seemed so far the best of the

Ok. So I know the tests here are not definitive or even trust-worthy for using the results in game. For me though, since i've also tested the low CAP extensively, and in more combinations, and since I've also looked at multiple other layering bands in previous tests, these give a great guide for what to look at further.

Next up:

1. A bigger high CAP (Loka style) with J2M5 Jacks high and many more sweepers. Still trying to be somewhat close to equal in total number of CAP to sweepers.

2. More arrangements of low CAP with Oscars low and George/Jack/Frank a/b/r high. Tonys maybe middle, although I'd like to play with them everywhere to find their best spot.

3. This is the important one. A big test with lots of CAP, sweepers, LR CAP covering sweeps and a large bombing run! All of it.

Here is a taster. A smaller bombing run, well escorted, with the same sweeps and CAP tested earlier. I did this first with the low CAP setup, then with Loka's higher layered CAP.

I'll only spam with the first part of the CR. [;)]

The key here seems to be that the first sweepers are crushed, then the CAP is strong for the first bombing run, and although a good number of airframes are hit on the round, the field is not closed and the following bombers without escort get nailed. More Allied planes are destroyed overall than Japanese.

I may have mentioned that I milked the withdrawal system for as many PPs as I could get, which helped me buy out the Chinese tank division. The is now headed to supply a fast reserve in Burma and along the Burmese coast.

The other benefit of letting these groups go a bit early is that I was able to reorganise and cover my most critical areas, upgrade groups to better fighters, and basically plan the defences before the reinforcements arrive. So now those groups are icing. I can let them train or pull them out to fill in areas for rear CAP cover while getting rookie pilots some experience.

As you can see it's a significant number of new groups. I don't know how many I'll have to pay to remove from the HI but it's 25 PP a group for the big ones if bought out to to a free HQ from an HI area. I know I'll need some rear cover, some escort groups and I'll continue to train low naval (kamis) and basic naval bombing skills for the massive battles to come. I've got a few thousand trained bomber pilots for both IJA and IJN so far. Right now I've reduced KB pilot training to one group that cross trains TB/NB/search.

The Oscar IV is arriving now, so I'll be upgrading ALL Oscar groups ASAP. I've got the Frank Ki-84b coming in about 3-4 weeks too!! That is exciting. True bomber killer and should be a better interceptor than the "a" as well. The J2M5 is also online in August. Then the next big development is the N1K5 in about October. I've never used it, but hear it s a beast. The N1K1 groups will be retired to rear areas in the next week, and I'm looking forward to the final Jacks and Oscars getting in to shore up against the coming onslaught.

I can do twenty tests. I just can't put it all on a spreadsheet right now. The info report seems to be enough, and I can capture a few sample CRs to make sure we see what's happening.

Looking forward to the Frank B! How many factories did you allocate to it? What does your overall supply look like?

Here is the R n D. The Frank K-84b is only 90 factories. That should be good to add on until the Ki-84r arrives sometime around December 44. Altogether I'll have a lot of Franks eventually. Now it's a bit sparse, but there are 200+ Frank "a" in the pool.

Having the final Jacks, Georges and Oscar plus the Frank "b" should boost the defences all around in the next months.

Just doesn't seem like 3 size 30 could advance it so much. Some of those fully repaired size 30 on late plane I assume you started from day 1. I am too lazy to go back and check.[;)] IF so, a solid testimony for early research.

No mod here. Just Scen 1.

I did start most of the major airframes in the first months. I looked back, and on page 4 there is a list of all R & D from the beginning. I had only started two Sam factories (after the KB disaster) from the first month. It's crazy though how sow those two have repaired. One still isn't even close where most others begun at the time are producing or a few repairs away.

The Frank "b" is researched normally. No difference.

Refining does make supply, which is crucial. Oil is low, but it's been low for a while. It's more about keeping it going now I think. The KB and most of the IJN are parked though, so that should help. All ports holding fuel are drained and even my main hub at Singers can't fill all of the tankers waiting for return runs to the HI. I have to take some offline.

The fact that the Allies are not using their subs to interdict anything other than deep ocean around Truk has really helped.

Last time I looked supply was around 5 million. I have to get tracker running again. Something not working with it right now.

Here is the best shot I have of how the economy is faring. This shows that supply is slightly higher than I'd thought at over 5.5 million. I'll try to keep conserving to see if we can get it over 6 million, but I doubt that with all of the combat likely soon.
