Please Help !!

Post by ROYDBOY »

I hope someone can help me. I just got a new computer with a Pentium 4, Windows XP, and a "Integrated Intel Extreme 3d Graphics" video card. After getting everything connected the first thing I did was load UV. The program installed OK, but when I started I got past the "loading" stage and then I get the following message: "The program you are trying to run requires a current Indeo Codec. To obtain a current driver that is compatible with this version of windows contact the manufacturer at http://Indeo.Ligos.com". I tried this site and got the dreaded bad address message. I have had no problem playing this game on my former antiquated Windows 98 for the past six months.
Am I doomed to never play my favorite game or can someone please throw me a life-jacket?
Any help would be sincerely appreciated as I love this game.

I don't think Indeo is used in the game - must be only for the introduction movie.

Maybe you should try to rename the "video" folder to "xvideo" and see what happens ...

Wow, its happening

someone uses an still an integrated graphics....heck. Try to get a new driver for it and try it again.

better : Try it with a real graphics card :D and look whats happening. It doesnt need to be expensive a GF4 MX 420 should do just fine. MAybe you could get one from a friend for testing purposes only

Definitely a problem with your system playing the intro videos. The suggestion to rename the folder to "xvideo" should help as it will skip the video clips. Alternately, try hitting ESC and see if that gets you in to the game.

Checking for new drivers is also a good call. Check the troubleshooting FAQ in the bug reports forum.

indeo codecs

Post by Neill Carson »

Microsoft is no longer shipping the Indeo codecs with Windows XP, and Ligos wants $14.95 for the codec. I think they must have a death wish, and I'm going to find out about shorting their stock tomorrow. I'm not sure if this is required for anything except the intro movies, if it were, there would have been more of an uproar.

Try this: http://home.eunet.no/~pereivin/codec.htm
Download the Indeo 5.1 codecs for Windows NT. The 5.1 is the
last one written by Intel. version 5.11 is the XP driver by Ligo. Run the setup and ignore the warning message. It's only software. Uninstall if it causes a problem.

HELP of A Different Kind Needed

Post by joliverlay »

1. I seem to be a very poor allied player....I need help. I'm having trouble as Allied in Scenario 17 in several games. In the most recent I've lost 2 CVs without scoring any hits on his carriers. Is there any hope??? Am I expected to play to the end even if I'm getting creamed, or just until he has a 500 point advantage???

2. I'm also having trouble adjusting to the Sync. Problem. Frequently my combat replays look reasonable (i.e. I get hits on his ships and shot his planes down occasionally....but the text file comming back to me always shows different results). In fact the 2 CVs I lost recently are an example. In the text file my SBDs fly alone and are killed. MY TBDs and Wildcats fly together and are killed. (2 CV Loads). Meanwhile he sinks both my carriers. On the other hand my replay shows his CVL sunk and 4 hits on each of his CVs with only one of my CVs damaged. How do you play the game when you can't belive the combat report (except the text file.) I don't even trust the sighting reports. Based on my last turn sighting we should be way to far apart for combat (my opponent says I reacted 1 hex...he did not react at all) yet we ended very close.

Is there any change I could have a bug in my exe file?????
