A Wargamers Needful Thiings book review thread

Post by sullafelix »

We will use this thread and just add to it with more releases.

This one is 'Vikings at War' by Kim Hjardar and Vegard Vike.

It is an excellent book on Viking warfare, but is also packed with a bunch of history. Especially of places the Vikings went that doesn't get any press at all.

Do we know any wargames about vikings?
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

My book of the week recommendation An Army at Dawn by Rick Atkinson

Great read if you are interested in the American involvement in North Africa.

I'll take a look. Thank you.

Picked An Army at Dawn up from Google Books (the whole trilogy is there at about 12 euros apiece). It seems very, very good. Well written, even as a non native speaker it's a doozy to read. Thanks for the tip! I've always been not that fond of the US forces in games, as I know so little of them. Now I'm browsing through some games to go with the book! :D
