I don't see why you can't, all we do is make jokes about you. [:D]
It wasn't set up for that , nor is it supposed to be like that. I WANTED a AAR that I could discuss Tactics, Strategy and planning. That's why I don't contribute all that much. It's turning into a colossal waste of time for me. No one wants to discuss strategy, and if I want comedians I can go to the comedy channel. WHAT I wanted was a serious game , about which I could discuss intelligently and discuss military manners. What I got instead was something more akin to Monty Python on a bad day. If you want Geoff, lets call off the game and you can read my AAR. And I'll take another nice long sabbatical. [:(]

Actually Steve, when the game gets started I will be happy to discuss things, there just isn't much to discuss yet.

Thank you Bill. I really do appreciate that. I guess I just don't feel much like continuing. I've been harsh in my comments , and I apologize for them. I didn't mean to bite at and snap at everybody. And I should not have. I guess I'm just impatient for a game , any game. I've got a small mirror game Marianas game going with Ray Fantone , but I've been hoping for a GC since before Christmas when I had two long running GC's die. I would like to thank you , and that wonderful southern gentleman Canoerebel ,for your support and advice. And I'd like to also say I'm sorry to Geoff. I know your trying. But I really , really would like to help and I have no problems with making the mods or anything else I can do to help.

So the question now is have you gotten things worked out yet? Is the game still on? In this case, no news is not good news.

Oh, poo. I confess I really haven't able to fathom Geoff's recent difficulty in getting things rolling, but I was sure you guys would figure it out.

He may just be tied up re-doing the first turn - which took a couple of days the first time, no?

It's still on if Steve likes. I can't fathom what this latest problem is, so I did another test turn and sent it to him to see if it happens again. I've played six or seven PBEMs before with no trouble like this. If anyone would like to help resolve this I can send them the same test turn and see what happens. I gave one order, standing down the KB (to shorten the replay). If Steve is pooed out on this I'm sure someone else will volunteer to be my victim. [:D] I'd like to play someone (like Steve) for a change who's well known in the forum. Previously I was able to turn out three to four turns on most days. This year I'm fixing to spend more time gardening than in the past so that would reduce it some.

OK. Here "what Steve likes". DON'T IGNORE ME. When I was a kid , a neighbor owned the sweetest natured beagle I've ever known. Charlie was patient, friendly and simply sweet. Unless you ignored him. After several minutes of ignoring him, a person would suddenly feel his leg getting warm. Charlie had his revenge. Like Charlie , I really , really don't like being ignored. When I offer to make a mod, or do something to assist , or offer to drive over with my copy of the game , TALK to me. TELL ME what I can do , or not do, to assist. Don't ignore me.

I've played dozens of PBEM's. NEVER have I seen such an absolute misfire before. And never have I seen such a miscommunications between players. There have been 3 emails between us since Christmas.

Several readers have cautioned me about my "temper tantrum's" and suggested I calm down. (In fact I've received many more emails from observers than my opponent). I'm sorry ,but it's just not my nature to watch a train wreck with out doing or saying something. So here's my requests for continuing. :
1) Let's talk about what we are trying to do , and plan for it. We live 26 miles apart , not 2600.
2) there are great communications devices that can help. Telephones , SKYPE , email, and there's always the old fashion technique that I get in a car or meet you. I also repeat my offer of several occasions to visit my home.
3) Let's start from the beginning. Both of us do a clean install from the very beginning , communicating to each other as we make each step. Then stop and double check that each step IS working , before taking the next one.
4) let's put the "Kabuki theatre" on till we have something to report , or need community assistance. (In other words , use the AAR as it was intended to).
5) Treat the set up of a PBEM with the seriousness it deserves. A good GC PBEM can run for years. It deserves deliberate, respectful and serious consideration and construction. You don't build a great building on an unimproved trash heap , let's build a solid foundation. And nothing solid was ever built by two or more people unless communications was involved.

So here's the summary of my opinion. There's a lot of players out there who've played with or against me in this game. They may have many feeling about me as a player , but I'll be surprised if any feel that I wasn't serious about the game. So let's get serious, and talk 1st , then build a game foundation , step by step. Let's stop throwing crap against the wall and hope it sticks. I'm serious. As I 1st heard in boot camp in Feb 1977 (and made it a mantra) "proper planning prevents pretty piss poor performance". So let's Plan . Then do. And then play. Let's do it right. [:)]

It probably is the best idea. It does not hurt to reinstall the game, nothing bad happens - I have done it multiple times to make sure I have a clean slate.

geoff sent me his turn. This is what I found

This file is for version 1124, that is the last official patch. The latest official beta patch is version 1126a and the latest unofficial beta patch is version 1126b. The pwhexe pwlink and pwzone are all for the stock map.

Note that it is possible and should be no problem at all to update to either version 1126a or 1126b. These are just .exe updates, there are no database update. Geoff can just update his current game folder to the proper .exe

Already done. Brand new folder, installed from disk, patched to 1124 and shortcut pointing to that. We'll figure it out. When I try to save the .pws file returned from Steve, by right clicking on the attatchment in my email, it wants to save it as an html. I don't remember how I used to do it but when I left click on the attatchment it goes to my download folder and I move it from there to the save game folder. Isn't that the right procedure?

What web browser are you using? It can make a difference. I use firefox and I have it set up to ask me where I want to download to. If you use chrome, you will have to use a different method. Yes you can let it download to your download file and then move it.

I'm using chrome mostly, I also use internet explorer sometimes but it doesn't seem secure. MS keeps trying to tell me that their "Edge" is faster and more secure than Chrome, but I don't trust them. Firefox? Didn't that go the way of Netscape? [:'(]

I would use chrome but, when you download a file it does not replace the old file, it adds a new file with a (#) after it( the # is replaced by a number ). WitP:AE does not work with that. So you will have to download the file to the download file and then move it to your witp:Ae folder( remember to not leave any pws file is the download file )

No guys, Chrome can be set to ask "where to?" all the time. Give me a second to find it in the settings and I'll be right back with it...

It does allow a where too, but I could not find a way to have it replace the file, it just kept creating new files.
But, I have been using firefox since version 1.0 so I am very comfortable with it.
