I get a MadExcept at the end of the DOW step. I tried with the latest version as well and received the error then as well.

Suggestions on how to proceed appreciated.

I am at the US Entry Options stage. Can you post what to do at each step and I'll see if this works.

So in this current screen I assume you just want me to click on "OK-Done"?

EDIT: Okay as you are not around I have just gone through clicking OK to everything and no alignments of Mexico, Brazil and Panama. I have got to the Port Attack phase and no problem. So unless there is something you need to do in the US Entry Options stage or the alignment stage, then my game gives no Mad Except.

I usually click on 'Continue with App.' If it progresses, I save, quit and restart.

I think our game file isn't quite right and since the problems are around the DoW step, wonder whether the Madagascar problem might be the cause.
Could be.

It is recommended that you do not use a save made after a MadExcept because there can be some error saved into the file that might cause errors a long time after.

That figures but given the choice between continuing the game versus risking an error that might or might not occur, I'd go for the former. You could try posting the game file on Tech Support and see if one of the Beta testers can fix the hex control of Madagascar in the same way they fixed Greenland/Iceland problems previously.

While that's sorted (and hopefully fixes the issue), we can simply press on with the other game.

I think it makes more sense for me to do this until we get to the actions stage.

So this doesn't turn into a colossal waste of time:

a) Can you confirm that you did not need to do anything in the US Entry Options screen (I don't think you do because a load of options come up which I guess are all automatically chosen as the US are in the war).

b) You don't want to align any of the three minors

c) What actions do you want me to choose for each?

It's encouraging that Warspite1 has got through without any MadEx's, although it doesn't make understanding why Orm got them any easier [&:].

That is why I want to be crystal clear on a) and b). You would imagine that Ormster has done something I didn't do. But maybe not. I just want to get to the start of the action phase without a hitch and then I can send the game over.

a) They should all be selected so no action needs to be taken.
b) Alignment can wait for another impulse.
c) US - Combined, CW - Naval, China - Land. And I recommend that France takes a naval action.

The best solution when encountering a MadExcept is to go back to a save and try to avoid the MadExcept from occurring again.

One reason a MadExcept bug occurs is when a value is out of bounds.

I have currently no opinion on how to proceed with the Madagascar situation.

We could declare Madagascar out of bounds for this game. Not ideal obviously but so long as we replicate the treatment in all four games then no harm done?

Well the game I've sent you moves beyond that stage so fingers crossed and just destroy your version.

I suggest that we ask someone to change the hex control if Japan wants to use Madagascar. If Allies want to use it then we either make the change as well or we simulate an invasion.

I've continued with the 2nd save that was modified by Paul.

Now I notice that it seems like control of Iceland and Greenland was not transferred to US although the option was automatically selected after the DOW. As I understand it this should happen at once in MWIF. But maybe we should wait a bit before asking help with this issue as well. Thoughts?

It should have happened straight away.

This looks like a repeat of the issue Mayhemizer and I had in one of our games. I think it was Paul who fixed it by changing hex control as he did for Madagascar.

It seems 2.2.0 has problems with changing hex control in response to some US Entry or Alignment options.

My preference would be to upgrade to 2.3.9, see if Paul can fix Madagascar with a save from the DoW step, then redo the US DoW on Germany/Italy. That should immediately flag up whether there are still problems with Greenland/Iceland.
