Movement Penalty ? and Another Naval Rule

Post by Rand6897 »

LAND MOVEMENT QUESTION

I'm working on a mod and my goal was to impose an additional movement penalty on tanks/mech in mountain hexes. So stupidly I hit them with an action point penalty of -3(Edit Penalties/Bonuses Data). Figured If I reduce their action points to two these units would be forced to use paved roads as their only way to cross mountain hexes. Didn't work, for some reason they drop to zero action points and are frozen provided they are not able to operational move. Can't figure out why this is such but it is what it is.

Does anyone have another idea on how to accomplish this?

NAVAL MOVEMENT/COMBAT.

Still hoping to find a way to make the naval game more balanced. I posted a set of rules I use playing solo while I play test because even with FoW on I obviously know about where the ships are at.

I have an idea to utilize versus the AI that is a heck of a lot simpler.
1] Bump strikes for naval units to "2".
2] Increase naval defense for ships, thinking maybe by x1.3 or x1.5.
3] Allow human ships to fire twice if >2/3 action points remain.
4] Allow human ships to fire once if if >1/3 but <2/3 action points remain.
5] Human ships can't fire if <1/3 action points remain.

Obviously the AI ships will always fire twice.

Again, I'm just looking for something to make the naval game something other than Admiral Nelson v. Gilligan.

Hi Rea,

with your naval ideas you crossed the hard coded area of the game. Better forget about that. But your observations concerning the land movement are very interesting. Maybe it is a weather/terrain condition problem but in general your modifications should indeed limit the freedom of movement of Mechanized units in mountain hex. According to the inverse principle, mountain infantry should be set up...

Hi rea6897

The Mountains automatically penalize any off-road movement already, so an additional penalty of -3 might be taking things too far. Have you tried maybe just -1 to see if that gets the desired result?

Bill,

Tried the -1 penalty yesterday and apparently fixed the problem.

The compromise (at this point) is the -1 action point penalty for tanks/mech and -1 strike penalty for tanks only; mechanized kept their strike. Mod is being designed for head to head play and this should keep the armor out of the Alps and Caucasus unless redeploying.

I appreciate your time.
