Public Beta v1.01.56 is Now Available!

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Public Beta v1.01.56 is Now Available!

Post by Indirectlemon »

Hello Everyone,

We have an new update ready for Public Beta. If you have registered your copy of War in the West and/or War in the West: Operation Torch, you can download the latest beta update from our Members Club and/or Members Club .

v1.01.56 – 13 February 2017
New Features and Rule Changes: [ul]1. Optimization changes to speed up logistics phase, supply routines, ground element replacement routine and battle resolution. 2. Air groups will be getting only pilots for the ready and damaged planes when rebuilt in editor. 3. Adjusted air Ground Support routines. 4. Adjusted resupply and vehicle usage routines in off-map East Front units. 5. Correction for manual: Cargo ships carry 1250 tons of cargo each turn, not 250 as listed in the War in the West manual.

Bug Fixes:
    1. Depot range value is not initialized correctly after loading a save. Fixed. 2. Fixed AC and pilot total numbers on air group tab in CR. 3. Units that move by train are suffering vehicle attrition during the next movement phase. MPs spent in strategic movement (train or ship) shouldn't be causing vehicle attrition. Fixed. 4. Naval sorties count can go negative due to canceled manual naval patrol AD. Fixed. 5. Fixed bug that was preventing proper display of Freight Usage Types info in the logistics report in WitW (WitE2 did not have the problem, but worth making sure this fix didn’t cause a new problem in WitE2). 6. Fixed memory leak in unit draw routine. 7. Fixed top menu drawing routine 8. Air units that haven't expended miles are no longer able to transfer to any base on the map. Fixed. 9. Sea hex control not set correctly. Fixed. 10. Fixed potential memory leaks that could crash the game. 11. First turn AI moves could take control of hexes units could not reach. Fixed. 12. Units can get replacements over 100% (mostly visible in small support units). Fixed. 13. When converting support to infantry unit can get over 100% of TOE in the divided unit. Fixed.

Data and Scenario Changes:
    1. Minor changes were made to all scenarios. In the case of the 3 standard Campaigns (and 2 of the Torch Expansion Campaigns), the changes were more substantial so we’ve included Beta versions of these scenarios while retaining the original versions of the scenarios. Hi...

Why in the load scenario screen there are a lot of duplicate scenarios with the suffix BETA? (see image below)

Major changes have been made to Axis production, especially fuel-related, and to units. That's why these campaigns are called BETA. Please provide feedback if you spot errors or balance issues.
Non-Beta scenarios/campaigns have only received some small changes/add-ons/fixes.
The official changelog is a little misleading - changes listed under point 1 "1943/1944 Campaigns, 4th Supreme Command" is for the Beta campaigns only, changes listed below that are for all scenarios/campaigns and/or for the specified ones only.

For whatever reason (I am sure there is a good one!), this download does not show up in the Members section of Matrix website but DOES under the Slitherine Members 'Registered Downloads' page, in case you're looking for it...
