Steam version won't launch

Post by charlesmc »

I know my Steam version was updated recently. When I click to launch, it says "performing first time setup...Installing: Microsoft VC Redist Package". It then pops up a dialog box that says that it can't find the Visual C++ runtime package and asks the user to point to it.

I tried hitting cancel. The game launches, but any scenario that I tried to load reports an error that the "database doesn't exist". I did try running verify local cache in Steam, but that did not fix the issue with the runtime installation.

Thanks in advance.

run it manually from the game folder in steam, as the game won't work without the correct version, no matter which one you already have, you need to the one that comes with the game as well, as having the latest, doesn't matter, you need them all as each version works for a given game, so install a few games, and the list of them can get large

this is mine from a fresh install of windows 10 64bit, just added some older games, and now the list looks rather large and still growing, as you can see, i use a 64bit O/S, but if the game needs the 32bit version to work, it installed both

Hi Zakblood,

The program is looking for "vc_runtimeMinimum_x86.msi", but that file does not seem to be present in the steam folder for CMANO. I've run searches on F:\Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ Command Modern Air Naval Operations \

Should I be looking somewhere else?

Thanks

i don't own the game, but they all follow the same guidelines

_CommonRedist will or should be the folder you're looking for, it will or should be inside there

Look under folder <steam install>\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\PreRequisites. Manually install 'vc_redist.x86.exe' as Administrator

Or go to Microsoft site and download/install the VC 2015 runtime x86 version.[;)]

To be more precise, in the steam version, the folder containing the 2015 redistributable is:
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Command Modern Air Naval Operations\_CommonRedist\vcredist\2015

There is no PreRequisites folder. There is a _CommonRedist folder that I found the 2015 V C++ runtime in and I've tried installing it several times, but I always get an error. I am running it as Admin.

At this point, I've spent several hours on this and am not planning on working on this more. Not sure what else to do.

First go to Steam Client, select Command from Library, right click the name and select Properties. Then select tab Local Files. From there select button Verify integrity of local files.

If that doesn't help, you might want to reinstall. I have Steam version and I definitely have Prerequisites folder.

My error. I was looking at the Matrix install instead of the Steam one - too many installs on my PC

I completely uninstalled it, rebooted, and then re-installed. I'm getting the same error about the VC++ redist as when I first tried to launch.

Alright. I officially give up.

It turns out that an older version of the 2015 Visual C++ runtime was installed on my system, but I (and the new Visual C++ installer) could not uninstall the older version (Visual C++ 14.0.24210). I found that Microsoft has a special downloadable uninstall tool which I ran against the older runtime. After that I then manually ran the new runtime installer for 14.0.24215 and it successfully installed.

CMANO now works properly.

Thanks for the suggestions - helped to get to the answer
