Air Wings or Air Groups

Post by Luskan »

I am wondering if it would be possible to incorporate the idea of squadrons being attached to a larger, user-named air unit, like air groups or bomber wings etc.

I was just moving my 200 b17s and 140 liberators from Cooktown to Brisbane and then to noumea, and the number of clicks it took really tired my mouse finger out. I was just thinking that maybe we could attach squadrons to "Air Task Forces" - and have the option to issue orders to a task force, rather than 20 seperate squadrons.

I would have loved to just found a scroll down menu, clicked on "Bomber Command" and moved them to Brisbane that way.

There may not be a need for this in WITP since many of the abses will be small - but many of the bases involved will be quite large so there may be a point.

Probably too late in the day to insert it into WITP?

Just an idle wish.

Anything that reduces micromanagement is a good idea.

The majority of the US heavies will come in man size packages of 48 a/c per bomber group. Many of the mediums will as well.

Your 340 bombers would probably only consist of 7 to 8 BGs in WITP and if you miss the old days, you can split them up.

The Japanese will still get RSI though.

Ground units are also an area when some micromanagement could be eliminated if there was a "Move all" command to aid in moving a large stack from one location to another. Revently, in a PBRM game, I started moving a LARGE stack of units up the coast after taking Brisbane. Well, the enemy fought for every hex so after each battle I had to order them all to move again. It was so much clicking that it really wasn't worth it.

Why didn't you just use the "Set all to March" option?

It'd be nice to see a headquarters for each air force command.

Because that takes ALL of them. You may not want that.

Because I’m an admiral and apparently brain-dead when it comes to land operations. :( I never even saw that command. Sad.

Thanks for the tip.

Hi, If there are 15 units and you want to move 10. Use the all command and then reset the 5 you don't want to move to defend
(6 commands versus 10)

IMHO it would be better if transfers were a normal air operation instead of a planning phase instant move. Aside from the realism of it you could then click the "assign all B-17s at this base" button and have them all move during the air ops turns where they should be. Though I do like the air group HQ idea too.:)
