Malaria Zones & Base Effects
Does anyone know is a size 10 base (af + port) will negate the effects of Malaria? Is there a sliding schedule? Are forts included in the arithmetic?

Yes, 9 also works. Only af+ports work which means inland only size 9 a/f are free. Putting units at rest works no matter what the base size is.

Many thanks.[&o]

Did not know this - especially the 'at rest' part.

Have to confess, one aspect of the game that I never really pay attention to. I figure that if my troops are sweating out malaria then the enemy's troops are facing the same handicap. The game just adds fatigue for malaria but actually it would be better if there was a big attrition hit as well. But then again, you would have to model the fact that the Allies at least had drugs and DDT to combat malaria while the Japanese had virtually nothing.

If you are ever in a battle for New Caledonia note that Noumea is not a malaria site. You can shuffle troops with the bug back and forth from further north on island making life real tough on a Japanese opponent coming from north. When he does get to Noumea he will find the allied soldiers undisrupted, at least by malaria.

I fall into the same boat as CR, never really paid attention to this. One concern is I don't really know where the zone is...I do know that it is depicted on the weather map but that never shows the dates it is "active". I wish there was some way it could be depicted on each hex but I guess there is only so much that can be put into a hex information wise....

THis is in two parts but may help.

These are good Skyros, thanks for sharing. A few questions: what does the * mean beside base names? Why are some names highlighted in gray and blue? Clearly all these bases are in a Monsoon area but it's not clear to me why some have ME and others don't (I thought it might be for smaller bases as you indicate in your notes, but that's not the case!)? Do the zones of Monsoon and Malaria coincide? Why are a few bases in bold? I understand the P A and F notations, but why the combined notation and what does that mean? In supply cap factor, is the number the supplies that can move through that location per turn? I get that islands have a zero but some zeros are not on islands. Is the zero in the supply cap column mean the location has no limit? Sorry if I seem thick, just trying to get it right.

What malaria? Just throw supply at the problem.

You can also see it when you open the base window. As to when I thought it's all the time or at least it appears that way from the effects.

Malaria affects all the time.. Monsoon is seasonal.

thanks Skyros, and you know what...those pdfs triggered a memory, and I actually have them already. Just hadn't looked at them in years.
RE: Malaria Zones & Base Effects
The combined P+A+F is multiplied by the cap factor to give you the supply cap for that base. The * designates dot bases that automatically have a supply cap of 1,000. Once you construct the 1st port airfield or fort the normal formula is used, so you can significantly drop the supply cap for that base by making improvements. The highlighted names are bases with out the supply cap restriction within that geographic area. ME designates bases affected by the Monsoon rules when the base airfield is < 5.ORIGINAL: dr.hal

The chart was missing the last two lines. I am glad you liked it and keep asking questions it keeps me honest.[8D]

RE: Malaria Zones & Base Effects
Shouldn't that read: "Dot bases have a supply cap of 100 until expanded"?

Says 1000 on the game map.
Seems odd, but I'm guessing it's to allow the bases on the India-Burma border to pull enough supplies across the hills and jungles to support at least some action without having to be built up to ahistorical size forts or airfields.

I don't think I am seeing that in my game. Will double check.

Thanks for going to the bother of explaining the details, I appreciate it. Hal
