Extremely fast Italian mobilization and DoW

Post by Leadwieght »

Been in two MP games, playing as the Allies where Italian mob goes up to 100%
and they DoW in Autumn 1939.

In the first one, I had sent French and RN ships to scout off Rome, Genoa, and Naples
but hadn't vacated any of the Med strategic points (Gib, Tunis, Malta etc.). Italian DoW came in Nov. 1939.
My opponent and I decided it was a bug and re-started by mutual consent.

In the second game, I did the same naval scouting (I like to see what the Reggia Marina is up to) AND I vacated Gib. and Syria.
Italy's mob was 100% by October 1939 and it declared war at the end of turn 3.

So, is this a bug, or are the scripts working as intended?

If they are working as intended, it seems like the presence of Allied naval units off Italy is the real driver. Bill, R. in a reply to an earlier query by Tigercub about these same games, mentioned that the vacating of strategic points has only a slight effect on Italian mob,
and my experience with the game overall bears that out. IMO the effect of what admittedly would be provocative Allied moves) may be set too high.

Anyone else seen this?

Ah, I'd just asked about this in the other thread, I hadn't realised there was another one on this.

Abandoning the positions wouldn't have such a dramatic effect. It's your naval scouting triggering it, and I'll be looking at that. [:)]

Thanks, Bill. You and Hubert (and all the other people behind the scenes) do good work.
