Jagger2002,

I'm not sure if they are decent, but I am moving all of my AD weapons systems into the area near Bad Bentheim. I have a bunch of Javelin sections on the way!!! Hopefully, they will get there in time. It was nice that the Soviets paused their push.

Have a good day,

Mike

If you have smoke, you could screen a movement into Suddendorf. Although bets are off, once the smoke disappears. Bit of a gamble.

Jagger2002,

Funny, as a gunner I should have thought of that!!! I've got lots of smoke, so if I time it right, I should be good.

Thanks for the hint!

All the best,

Mike

Good game and nice AAR! Also nice recovery from the initial surprise chemical conditions. I am curious about the performance of the Russian helicopters. How many helicopters did they have and how many losses did they inflict?

Jagger2002,

Thank you. I enjoyed the surprise and the additional challenge. The chemical contamination changed my plans slightly and it took me a bit to figure 0ut the impact to my forces.

The Soviets had 8 Hinds and they did not do much damage at all as they only had 9 kills, they took out one Helo and 8 Challengers. I was able to destroy 5 of them. Really, the Soviets kept them in the back until near the end when they pushed them toward the A31. If they had kept pushing them forward, they could have done lots of damage to my Warriors as I pushed them toward Suddendorf.

Have a good day,

Mike

AAR

What did I do right?

I stuck to the main elements of my plan. I sent out my recce to find the Soviets and then adjust. Overall, that is what I did. I also kept my main focus in the North, and that worked well.

I moved my Infantry companies forward into assembly areas in anticipation of future actions, This worked well in getting a company into place South of Bad Bentheim and another one into Bad Bentheim.

I like how I used my fire support resources. I put down a minefield that helped stop an advance, took out lots of AD elements and HQs. The M109s were very effective.

What could I improve on?

Moving units – my lead squadrons quickly caught up with my recce. I need to figure this out if I want to switch to being on the attack. I think I got better later in the scenario though.

I had trouble keeping within command ranges – part of that was that I stretched the Gren Guards over the whole map at times, part of it was just losing track of the HQ units .

I should also have moved my AD weapons forward earlier….

It would have been better if I had assigned a company to the Lancers at the outset. The Lancers were hit hard and maybe if I had had a company with them, the losses would have been lower..

Thoughts on the scenario/game

It was another fun scenario. I took a little longer to play as life got in the way a couple of times, but I enjoyed the surprises and the scenario.

It was neat being surprised right off the start with the chemical contamination – I never thought about that.

I still find it interesting how little the Gren Guards did. They basically held ground and maybe convinced the Soviets that I might be about to something.
