This is an example of a night mission in the ETO, my father was a pilot in the 97th flying these type missions. You can get an understanding of how they navigated and in this case how they lost a crewman.

When you can tell something is very wrong with the aircraft, then waiting for a "bailout alarm" is not justified. A person has to make that call. And the crewman that bailed did nothing wrong.

Flying the A20 was like riding a bronco.
