Strategic Command v1.01.03 Beta available

Post by Benedict151 »

As some of you have spotted there is now an updated beta patch available for Strategic Command to address an issue found in the v1.01.02 PBEM beta.
Resolved a crash for the 'commit_unit_last_unit_move' error

This is available from the members and public areas

Public:

However please note that a user has reported that there is an issue with paratroopers that we are investigating so you may wish to hold off updating for now
We will confirm if v1.01.03 is good or release an updated version as soon as we can

Hello all
Further to my earlier post Hubert has fixed the paratroop issue found in v1.01.03 and we will get v1.01.04 out to you as soon as possible

We can't hold off on .03 version because the server forces us to update to continue our game. What is the paratrooper issue please? I want to know if I can continue with my turn or have to wait for the .04 version. That will depend how severe a problem there is with .03.

Does this update break games in progress? My MP partner updated and says our game wants 1.02, but of course when you have 1.02 the PBEM+ lobby forces you to update. How is this going to be handled in future as well, since there are obviously going to be updates that will not be backwards compatible with games - is the lobby forcing an update something you can choose to activate or not per patch, or is it an automatic part of the system?

I can see how that might not be a big deal with something like Battle Academy where the games can be relatively short, but SC campaigns are a little bit longer ;)

Hello Elmo
The issue reported with paratroops was that you can get a seg violation when trying to land them

OK, thanks. Will continue our game and keep them as ground pounders for now.

Hi Wilson,

This does not break any games in progress so please feel free to continue your game after you update to the latest PBEM++ beta.

We will do our best to ensure compatibility between updates and something new that we are doing for this release is to allow players to continue their games in progress even if the campaigns they started their games with have been significantly updated.

This is possible as games in progress are now separated from the campaign updates and unless there is a significant game engine change that we can't work around without breaking compatibility, most updates will allow games in progress to continue as needed.

Hope this helps,
Hubert

Ah, can we just post actual public URLs? The login/hunt-and-peck to find the files is a bit tedious and I'm sure there's nothing top-secret in a public beta .zip file.

Thanks Hubert, that sounds good indeed :)
