Manual Convoy Routing Broken

Post by AllenK »

I'll post the game file later as this encapsulates the problems with convoy routing. This is under 2.3.9. First a set up for CW. All factories in use and note the Algerian resource taking a 2 sea-zone path to the UK (Cape St Vincent and Bay of Biscay), giving 33 BP's. No CP in the WEst Med. Gibraltar is held by the Axis, so the straits are closed to the Allies.

A CP is added to the West Med and suddenly the Algerian resource is being routed through the Med, around Africa and back up, passing through Cape St Vincent and Biscay, for a total of 11 sea-zones. If the routing Algorithms are selecting an 11 sea-zone route, over one that takes 2, they need adjusting. Cost to the CW is 3 BP's.

On its own this would be an inconvenience but should be fixable with manual routing. However, when I try this.... (Picture shown of the set up just prior to the second click on the final sea zone).

... it simply reverts back to the computed route, no matter what I try. The manual routing just doesn't seem to working like it used to. There are other routes in this set up you can try this and get similar results.

If I undo the CP move to the West Med it reverts back to the desired set-up.

When I was trying to figure this out, I also noted it was possible to send the Algerian resource to Canada okay (taking the 3 sea-zones you would expect).

Game file below. It opens showing a factory idle. Send the idle South African resource to London and it recomputes fine.

One thing you might try is to clear the defaults and overrides, then click from the computed route to the default creation, and create the default route. That might get the program to accept the default route.

Already tried clearing defaults and overrides, thanks.

Once you've input the route, it shows as the override when you click though the options. It's just that MWiF is ignoring it for its computed route. This sort of defeats the purpose of having the override function.

I've ran into the same bug with this version. Very annoying indeed.

It's not just this version.

This is the annoying MO of the convoy system for quite a while already.
Some turns are very hard to overcome by the UK because of this sort of convoy problems (and needlessly so, ofc).

I guess this kind of problem is hard to erase, since for a long time, less annoying bugs are solved first and this one is not.

Personnally I don't play this game anymore since this bug occured. I'll play again when it will be fixed. It is a show stopper one.

I don't blame you. The tedious and apparently growing list of problems we are getting isn't a good advertisement for the game.
