VP bug

Post by loki100 »

Just opened the most recent turn for my game with Gunulf (on server) and saw a massive leap in Allied VPs due to failing to meet the garrison numbers, but when I looked at the details then I am well ahead of everyone single requirement.

I'll not make any moves or saves till checked as every single garrison city is showing as blue and I had no warning messages last turn.

In the prior WA turn when the points were scored, the Germans only had 4 CV in Bologna and it was listed on the garrison screen as being required. I don't know why you didn't get a message about this during your turn (do they show up in server play?). By your turn, the Allies had crossed the line into Northern Italy and Bologna is no longer required to be garrisoned by 10 CV, but it was at the start of the Allied turn when the points were scored.

But Gunulf had entered the north 2 or 3 turns back, clearing the garrison need, and then pulled back when I briefly cut his supply lines only to advance again.

This seems like the very early problem where an Allied player could invade the Channel Islands, and then pull out, hitting the axis with a VP penalty - I forget the details as that was so clearly an exploit while this is the ebb and flow of the front line.

I've attached the T21 situation on the Italy border ...

Sounds bad. The rules say this:

Also, only a security unit garrison is required in a city that is in a region containing an Allied combat unit.

In the German turn 23, there are Allied units in the north and no garrison required in Bologna. In the Allied turn 22, there are no Allied units (or even controlled hexes) north of the line, so the 10 CV in Bologna should be needed.

It does look like if the units move over the line, and then move back, the garrison requirement resets. Not only that, but I didn't get a warning message that the garrison requirement was not being met in Bologna. At a minimum the warning message should be triggered. I agree it's gamey, but I haven't thought through the implications of trying to make the conditions not return once removed, and how difficult that might be in the code. At a minimum we should see if we can get the warning message to show up. If it were me, I'd credit the points back to my opponent if this happened to them, especially given the lack of a warning message.

Can anyone confirm that warning messages ever come up when using the server Multiplayer?
