Do the Japanese have female sailors...I think I might have seen one. I wonder what their take on that is?

Beautiful ship.

Yes they do. In fact, they have started to have their first women captains. Here's an article from Time magazine about the first two women appointed to command Japanese ships. Mind you, the ships are apparently used mostly for training, but that's still a big step. Apparently the Japanese defense forces have been slower in incorporating woman that the U.S or other western nations, but are actually better than the Japanese private sector. Women are still restricted to largely non-combat roles, but I think that's the rule in a lot of militaries that have female personnel.

Many thanks. [&o] I read the article, and I guess I should have searched the web on it myself.

I don't like it at all. Japan's navy should ever never had to become that big and proud again under any circumstance.

Good to see Japan stepping up and taking greater responsibility for their defense.

Defense is expensive, like insurance. But if you don't have it when you need it...

Particularly when your neighbors have a tendency to get cranky! Besides, it would be rather silly for an island nation to lack the wherewithal to defend its shores

In the case of Japan, defense becomes offense and expansionism at the greatest extents.

They should form an alliance, China Japan and Korea (accepting China as the leading party), to put an end to their 5000 years old feud.

Sure a communist dictatorship that murdered millions of their own population...

Seems you are trying to push the discussion for political. If you got there you'll get answers you might not like.

Boise is under the sea... both in my games (always sinks early), and in real life (SSN-764)
