[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]DEI: [/font]Palembang falls to the IJ with little damage to the oil. Game on! I almost enjoy seeing this happen as I know now the Empire can breath a sigh of relief and plan for the future with it's main mission accomplished. This means secondary targets are now officially on the table, and defence of India, OZ and the West Coast proceed at full throttle.

A curious battle emerged near Batavia. Force Z was sent to the area to protect the tankers and other ships retreating through the straits off to Perth. 35k fuel made it through the gap plus about 10k supplies and a number of decent tankers and small, useful xAPs.

The IJN sent in 5 DDs which obliterated 3 AMc and then tangled with Force Z in a running battle. The IJN gave a good account of itself, and put a few directs onto the fragile RN DDs early, but lost 2 DDs, Uranami (Fubuki) and Nowaki (Kagero), in the first battle. The Durban also ate a long lance but should be fine. Love getting a Kagero put down early. [:)]

Two more IJN DDs could be in trouble after battle 2 if they can't put the fires out. It's a long way to shipyards at Saigon, but they could brave Palembang for a few to do some damage control. Hopefully they burn out on the way! [;)]

The RN will retire, and should only lose the Vampire.

PBYs are guarding North New Guinea with daring low level attacks against all kinds of IJ shipping. Low value targets here, and the IN will most likely get involved in a serious way soon once the USN CVs aren't lurking obviously nearby. Still this has been fun, and I hope a bit frustrating for Lowpe! [8D]

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]KEEPING UP WITH THE KB: [/font] Tracking the movement of the KB will be priority number 1. Here is a track of the past three days. All these subs in shot are fanning out West to work on different tracks and hopefully bump into the IJN along the way.

Gotta love the Kaga! Slowing things down here getting 8 hexes/day for the past two days. At this rate the USN subs should even outpace the KB in the race to set up around the Marshalls.

If the USN CVs get through the Nettie nets fro mTruk and Roi Namur then it should have clear sailing into some more trouble soon! [:)]

The Marine Kittens from Wake have recombined onto Lex with their whole group and that leaves some space on Enterprise. Wish I had more fighters, but that'll be a few months.

The Pecos makes it through from the PI and will be arriving at PM in about 2-3 days. The oiler is loaded with fuel (taken from Manila to get it out of Japanese hands) and will aim to rendezvous with the USN CVs at the earliest possible moment. In the meantime CV escorts will refuel from a few big transports in the Nauru and Solomons area to extend them to get to the oiler.

Saving this ship is key to the next stage for the Allied side and if the CVs arrive intact to be refuelled they should buy a week of freedom to operate anywhere to the West of PM.

If that happens I know exactly where they'll be heading! [:)]

I think in DDB-C there are fewer engineers in the Dutch units. Not many there if any.

My last IJ game Torsten made a stand at Palembang, I didn't go fast enough to get it, and the base held in Japanese hands under siege for almost two months. Still, there was only around 80 points damage total by the end, and that all to the refinery.

I'm hitting it anyway, as if he takes it this early thee are lots of opportunities to cause some problems there. More 4Es on the way too! [:)]

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]STRAT BOMBING: [/font] Here we go! A bit of early strat bombing '41 style! He has no night fighters, and won't for years. This is the most vulnerable time for the oil of the DEI until the Allies are able to come back later in 43-45. He hasn't nullified Singers, hasn't hit Java, and hasn't yet taken out the PI fighters which are the next to be bought out. Only good for 6 months, but the first few could be valuable on offence and the last few they could really help out on defence.

I've bought out the PI 4Es. They're scattered, a bit roughed up, but it doesn' take many to have an effect. I started with two groups of only a total of 7 available airframes. they got through, hit, and caused damage that will cost Japan either oil or the supply it takes to repair the wells. I also bombed the manpower at Palembang, which started sites destroying a good number of refineries, and it's still burning. [:)]

They'll go again tomorrow, and the Dutch will join in more fully as well.

My CVs actually have fuel to hit these guys if they do hang around, but I won't risk it today. The Vindicators put a 1,000 pounder on CL Tenryu which is carrying troops. Cats miss the Yubari.

These look to be trying reinforce the troops at Kaveign. There is a lot of the USN here right now, so we'll see how long he decided to hang out and support there and what the DBs and Cats can do tomorrow.

The Japanese land at Sorong. A number of planes sortie but only one PBY lands a 500lb bomb on Yamashiro. Claudes do a good job of frustrating other efforts.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PACIFIC: [/font]At Tarawa three USN CA bombard based on intel that several Japanese ships are in the harbor. It turns out to be correct as an xAKL and a PB are hit. Later in the day PBYs add to the damage, hitting a different xAKL and an xAK.

The CVs continue on toward So Pac and avoid any Nettie filled waters so far. The KB remains on the edges of the Marshalls. Not moving very quickly. [:)]

One of the most important things an Allied player has to focus on is moving supplies away from the USA. Just read Dan's AAR and you can see how many supplies he is burning up in Luzon. I typically build up Christmas Island and Vava'u (largest port potential in SoPac outside of Aukland) as my two hubs. The plentiful 12 knot xAKs take 30 days to get from San Fran to Sydney. So, only 6 trips per year for each of these ship. I like the T2-SE-A Class TKs to be in CS TF from LA to Pearl. Its high capacity with relatively low Endurance to move fuel.

I've got some Buffs on LR CAP so far and have been bombing the fields as well. He hasn't moved more in. It should be tough to hold this but still have to cover the other vulnerable bases as well. Not much here as you know!

Currently I've sent a massive first fuel shipment to So Pac and Sydney, and I'll begin getting the xAKs moving next. I want to make sure th eKB is accounted for before flooding So Pac with slow transports! [:)]

A lot will come from Cape Town to OZ as well. I've got all available xAKs from OZ with LR and some from the DEI heading there. I'll skirt the lower edge of the board to Adelaide most likely. I found this to be a good route as long as the IJN can be kept out of the area. Greyjoy did make one move down here in our game!

Piling supply into fixing oil fields means there will be less for R & D, less for expanding industry or building forts/fields, and less to use for follow on big invasions. [/font]

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]GAME: [/font] I'm seriously behind here as I've had time to play a turn a day but only enough for a few sporadic updates while traveling. I'lll get caught up, but this is a tense opening, and both sides are taking some risky steps. The Japanese seem to want to move quickly in the DEI, and if that's the case, I wonder what is coming. Singers is still very active and that will have to be dealt with to go toward India, but not to OZ, so we'll see. I'm preparing as much as I can for a strat raid in OZ especially, but there just aren't many fighters or AA units around right now.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]INDIA: [/font]All major Indian units have moved to Karachi or Bombay. The Brit 18th will shore up Bombay some more and then anything new will go to Socotra, Diego and other bases needed to hold the LOC from Cape Town, Abadan and Aden. Calcutta, Madras and other major Eastern Indian locations will not be defended. Nearly all of the fuel and supply have been removed from Colombo as well.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]PACIFIC: [/font] The Lex and Enterprise make it into safer waters, heading for Port Moresby. The KB is moving South of Wake and I've sent al ships on and out of the way. DM Ramsay is caught and torpedoed by an RO-66 near Wake.

On the 21st the Dorniers hit DD Minegumo with a big 300kg bomb near Sorong. Might sink an old DD, we'll see. Nice they're adding a bit to the cause anyway.

On the 20th P-40s sweep Palembang and get some good shots in at the Nates and Oscars. Anywhere I see Nates I'll try to hit! [:)]

On the 21st I kept on, but this time the B-17Es are involved!! They slice right through the Oscars and just added A6M2 and hit Palembang for 7 more shots to the oil. That should cost 20k supply and some lost production judging by the after turn recon. [8D]
