I don't know. I think they still burn supply.

If the unit fires AA at the plane(s), yes. Another reason to bomb, but not a guaranteed reason - not all units have AA.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SW PAC: [/font] The Allies get serious about Hollandia it seems. First a bombardment run goes in on the 14th torching the fields and getting some decent hits on the fighters here. The groups moral luckily stays high, and I keep them up for the next turns. This could have been devastating if followed the same turn by massive LR CAP and bombing runs. It would have been painful, but likely could break the CAP down and close up the shop.

Instead sweeps came in the day after, on the 15ht, and got hit hard again. This time Sqz set them lower, and the results were similar to the high sweeps except somehow the Spits also suffered. Maybe since the CAP wasn't as spread out they could concentrate on each wave? Not entirely sure, but interesting, as I now have to think about this for my Allied game. [:)]

The Allies lose a chunk of good fighters (and probably pilots) on the day. About 1:1.5 in favour of the Allies, but only 12 pilots KIA for the Japanese, and our 80+ studs just got stronger. Some groups are nearly all yellow 80s now![8D]

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font]Still shifting around. Looks like there could be some movement now to the NE, going up the long yellow road to Chang Mai? We'll see. I've set some units to strat and will head around and back with just enough to cover if that is the case. I have a division blocking th driver crossing with 4 forts, and if he sends the entire army, it'll likely get vaporised, but might take out a lot of Allied troops with it!

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]OZ: [/font]Wyndham is taken, allowing more cover for Darwin should the Allies reinvest there. It's been worth it to reinvade, in spite of my usual stance in not doing that for the Japanese this late, but it's keep the threat of Darwin becoming a strat bombing base much reduced. Now I have J2M5 and Ki-84b filling out groups which will station in places like Soerabaja and Balikpapan.

I'm starting to think altitude is also a factor in timing. The low CAP is a bit scary to Sqz after his previous experiences, so at least he's trying some new stuff here. He had some things working earlier I thought, but din't pursue. He seems very loss averse, which in the endgame does allow for the multiple turn strikes that will be needed to wear down a base like this. I think he just set sweeps, and since I also had LR CAP going, even if he'd thrown 4Es in, they would've been hit for their gains.

I'm just sitting here still fighting in North New Guinea while all the bases in the second and third tier I want to fortify have time to build and get populated. This is a long process, and I know he took this over with a lot to fix. It'll be exciting to see jets for the first time! [:D]

I have seen Jets in downfall. They can be tough., but you need to be careful with them. High SR. They seem prone to not sticking around long, especially in a multiple wave attack.

I bet they make for decent sweepers when the Allies get close enough.

I am amazed at the low number of plane losses you have suffered.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]RESUMING THE AAR: [/font]Well, it's been a while! The game as been going steadily, but the action hasn't been that new, so I didn't want to bore everyone with endless reports of the same air actions for several months. Some thing are starting to happen, so I'll quickly go through some updates and get to the present.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font]The Allied army continues to march from side to side of the Central valley in Burma. I move troops back and forth. That's about it.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]CENT PAC: [/font] Truk is still sitting pretty while everything West of there has been effectively abandoned. All Marianas bases are ready, with lots of prepped troops and good forts at 6-7.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SW PAC: [/font] In SW Pac the Allies continue to bomb Woleii and intermittently hit bases in Northern New Guinea. He is really feeling his way slowly here, which is fine by me, as Hollandia and Sarmi continue to be able to be supplied by xAKL. He sends DDs in occasionally to hit some, but others still get through.

One DD run is hit by MTBs, which is surprising and fun.

He continues to bomb Woleai, but we set LR CAP every once i na while and get some P-38s and B-24s too. All of this attention is having little affect on the base, which the engineers clean up. The main defenders are being kept at Babeldaop and will be flown in at first sight of trouble.

On the 24th he sends in a damn good BB bombardment of Hollandia. Ouch!!

We did manage to get ALL groups out via xAKL that were sitting in the base for this reason. Then the 200+ engineers fixed it up and we moved back in! [:D]

The BBs come back on the 29th and we have a DB strike get slaughtered by LR CAP.

On the 30th sweeps hit a lone Tojo group at Biak, and it does surprisingly well. Still finding this plane useful after its sell-by-date. [:)]

One other note is that he's using B-29s to hit fields and ports, which I like. The more used against these targets, the less around to hit industry later!

In a strike on the 31st they actually hit some CAP, with the newly arrived Ki-84b playing a part. Curious about this plane as I've not used them in previous games. So far so good!

A nearly abandoned Vanimo is taken on the 31st. I was thinking he'd walk from there to Hollandia, but so far he hasn't during the next two months.

On the 21st we miss a beautiful chance to hit the B-29s as they go for the fields at Noemefor. Unfortunately I had CAP down repairing and resting. [:(]

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]BURMA: [/font] October sees the Allies seemingly making a move here. On the yellow road from Meiktila the Allies now appear to have 200k troops going around my one supported and well-dug-in division in the river crossing hex. It looks like they will either walk into the deep jungle and go around toward Chang Mai, or potentially go for China up the road to Kunming. i've begun re-shifting my Chinese expeditionary army to free some divisions from their garrison and fort building duties and will get 2k AV up to Kunming to address this threat.

I've just seen through recon at Ledo that the now filled out Chinese army is returning into the fray fro mIndia. 400k troops are just leaving Ledo into the jungles. Paoshan is nearly at forts 6 but having supply woes, so I'm flying some in to finish the job, then leaving a division with arty in the base on the river crossing.

The force in Central Burma is now only 180k troops and looks to be heading for Toungou again. If his 200k force does hit the jungles proper, offload, I'll see that as a chance to retreat half of the IJA Burma Army to more safe areas near Bangkok.

I'd like to keep it in the shadows for now. Subs are launching from all directions and there should be 30 or so in the area in 3-4 days.

[font="Microsoft Sans Serif"]SW PAC: [/font] The Allies go big for Biak this turn as well as moving closer to the Woleai area.

At Biak the sweeps do well, and the N1K5's debut is not amazing. He tries lower sweeps which helps him out, but the B-24s come in at 24k and the CAP still gets to them, while the bombing is relatively ineffective from that altitude. The P-38s on LR CAP really suffer, losing 35+ on the day, and the P-47 continues to struggle down low.

At Woleai two xAKL unloading supplies (just in time) attack CV air strikes, which are mauled by the Franks and Oscars on CAP here. [8D]

Not close. I'm only at about 11(19) on the jet fighters. Less on the bombers. Decided to add them late when it seemed like the game might continue past historical. Only one factory x30 of each of those and I think one of the Ki-94.
