Correct. Hex row 161 (one hex south of Brisbane) is the Australian reinforcement trigger.

Next turn, I'll gather up the IJA units involved in this mess. Maybe some nice JFB can fill me in on where these units would have normally been sent to.
A Start:
38th Division - Hong Kong assault
19th Ind. Engineer Regiment - Hong Kong Assault
II./4th Infantry Battalion - Landing: Kuching
16th Infantry Regiment - Sendai, Japan
20th Ind. Mtn Gun Battalion - Hong Kong assault
20th Ind. Engineer Regiment - Hong Kong assault
1st Hvy.Artillery Regiment - Hong Kong assault
2nd Ind.Hvy.Art. Battalion - Hong Kong assault
3rd Ind.Hvy.Art. Battalion - Hong Kong assault
2nd Mortar Battalion - Hong Kong assault
16th Army - Babeldaob
10th Ind. Mountain Gun Regiment - Hong Kong assault
17th Medium Field Artillery Regiment - Babeldaob
So, at Bundaberg, at least, it looks like the troops there made a beeline for Australia right afterward. Hopefully, I get feedback on Maryborough next turn. If I find lots of troops slated for the Philippines here, I may start taking more offensive action there. Maybe I could entertain a major shipment of reinforcements from Pearl, escorted, of course. With KB tied up near Australia, I could do mischief to the north.

Everyone in Oz looks to be from some backwater area. Not sure where the troops in Townsville came from yet.
Troops have showed up at Subic Bay. All I know is that it's 9 units. I'm moving all the combat units in Bataan there. There's only a few units each at Clark and Manila. He may have seriously shorted Luzon on troops.
He takes a shot at Bundaberg, but it bogs down.
My attack at Charleville goes equally unwell, so they'll defend now.
The attacks at Singapore are picking up steam. I'll guess two days at the latest.

Now you are getting it. He is very far offtrack, going straight for Australia and leaving his entire rear area exposed. At this point, what you want to do is tie up his units in Australia, get some supply to Luzon, and get B17s strat bombing from Clark. Let the whole Japanese army play around in Australia while you lay waste to Formosa and Hong Kong. If you can get 40K supply into Luzon, the game is over. It would take a major effort to dislodge the U.S. position before 1943... somewhere around 3,500 AV, which he is not going to find with most of his army in Australia. If you could get a U.S. marine division in addition to 40K supply into Luzon, he will never dislodge that position.. fort level 5 or 6 at Clark with an extra U.S. marine division. That is an absolute nightmare for Japan. You will not need to launch a 1943 offensive, because you will already be at Japan's door.
What is going on at Palembang? That one hex is more important to Japan than the whole of Australia.
RE: Up and at 'em. Mundy vs hjones6464@yahoo.co.uk
One small landing north of Palembang. Apart from that... nothing.
I can't believe he's let it sit this long. If he's doing lots of research and factory building, the Home Islands will be getting crunched before long. If I had had any inkling of this earlier, I would have packed that base with troops and engineers by now.
I'm probably going to cross the river at Pegu soon. I can pressure Malaya from the north. I'm packing Rangoon and Pegu with Dutch troops in case he gets cute.
I'm warming very much to a mega-convoy to Luzon. Transports are very tight right now, so I have to gather them up again. Lots of the stuff at Pearl are shipping stuff to Australia right now. Two CVs as escorts should keep most LBA at bay. If I can get even one good quality division there, it could make a difference. Lots of supply could get the Philippine units built up. A side story: In my old game with AW1 and Onime, they had sent a Chinese Corps to India to simply grow and build. That one unit had reached over 1,000 AV all by itself.
-----
I'm toying with the idea of starting a second game using LST's "Bottleneck in the Pacific" mod. I've been looking through it and it looks very cool. I'll have to see if any JFB wants to slog through that one.

Disagree here. It would take more than a million supply to make it till 1943. 40,000 won't even last a month, especially if you are running B17s out of there.
Allies won't be able to control the air space.
Don't disagree with the premise...of using Luzon. I would use it more with Sboats and naval search while building forts and running supply in.

40K would last 3 months on Luzon. That is about what the allies start with there and that is about how long they can go. He still has local sources of supply, including Manila. Why can the allies not control the airspace over the Phillipines? They have almost 100 P-40s there. If this is PDU:On, he could even send P-38s there via China and AVG. I tell you the truth. The game is over if he gets a major supply convoy into Manila.
The whole Japanese everything is in Australia. Aviation support, bombers, the whole operation would have to turn around and go back north. then try to dislodge the Phillipine army from Clark, which could be built up to 5 forts. Good luck. Even without supply, the allies could hold that position for months.

So. Worst case scenario for the Allies: Japan steam rolls Australia successfully before returning (in force) to a reinforced and resupplied Luzon. Let's say July 1942? What happens then?
Can the IJ get an Australian victory first and *then* get a Philippines victory closer to home in mid-late 1942?

I took over a game where in August of 42 Japan had 4 divisions wiped out in Java. The Allies reinforced with everything they could, CVs, ground troops, heavy bombers, etc, etc....I still had no problems taking Java in 2 months. I shattered several American and Australian divisions there.
Luzon would be an order of magnitude easier. Oh, in that game I didn't have Luzon either.
40,000 supply would only last if Japan ignored Luzon for three months.
Every month Japan can buy out 1 full division, plus some odds and ends and reinforcements.
If Allies go for a Luzon gambit by leaving Oz to its own devices...take tons of supply and be prepared to lose it all.

I think I'll be able to retake the island at this rate, since I have a ton of AV moving his way. Once I gather up enough shipping at Pearl, I plan to get an escorted convoy out as soon as practicable.
Sumatra has been quiet. He took one base, Bengkalis, which is in the middle of a giant swamp, so there's no real threat from that angle. Lots of fuel just sitting there...
I sent a CL heavy force to Maryborough. Lost one DD, but gave him plenty of hits. KB (or what's left of them) caught them on the way out, but nobody has more than moderate damage except for Tromp, so everyone should get back. I was tempted to LRCAP from Brisbane, but I just waypointed them near the base on the way back for the same effect. We'll see if his fires keep burning. Prince of Wales and Repulse are two days from leaving drydock, but I think I'm glad they didn't go, though I probably would have done better against his ships.

My forces at Bataan will be in Clark in a day or two and will probably knock these guys back. Looking around, he has two units in Manila and it looks like one in Cabanatuan. I think I'll be able to retake the island at this rate, since I have a ton of AV moving his way. Once I gather up enough shipping at Pearl, I plan to get an escorted convoy out as soon as practicable.
For future reference, make your first stand at Clark, not Bataan. Bataan has those nice coastal guns to soak bombing and deter bombardment, but Clark is better terrain and a better base, which will seems to help recover disabled squads more quickly.
There is probably some supply in Clark and Manila, which is yours if you retake those hexes. The 2 engineer units that he has there have only a small contingent of combat engineers, about 12 each. He has no anti-tank guns, and the 65th Brigade is a light brigade with no heavy arms to speak of. Get the Grants in there!
Why not reinforce Palembang now? And get the oil and fuel out. Without that oil and fuel, his heavy industry will shut down at the end of 1942 and his fleet will not be able to leave port. There is no oil in Australia. Until the base is reinforced, I would shut off the refineries at Palembang and every refinery that he has not taken. You will lose supply, but it will create further hassles for him in the future, should he finally decide to take the oil.
821Bobo did a nice job of moving some oil and fuel out of Palembang and Djambi to the western and northern sides of Sumatra, in the game that I am playing now and pulling it from there. He has paid a price in tankers, but he removed about 50K in fuel that I would normally have. Just set those bases to "stockpile" oil and fuel, then get some tankers in there and pull it out.

Very good thing that PoW and Repulse were not in that battle. With the number of torpedo launchers the IJN had they would most certainly eaten enough torps to sink them. At 1000 yards they just cannot maneuver enough to avoid them, and the rate of fire of the big guns would only allow for maybe one salvo before they were silenced by torpedo damage.

Note Sulusea's comments and AAR about Palembang in the game that he was playing. It was still in allied hands in July 1942 with 5 forts and several divisions defending. The last Japanese attack there came off at 1:6. This is what can happen if the Japanese do not move on Singkawang and Sumatra quicky.

Yeah, if Japan allows to bring 18th Brit and Aussies/Indians from Singers, Palembang becomes a tough nut with its 3x terrain and inherent supply production (if not DaBabes). Not to mention all the possible air transport from doomed Java

+1 And if you are playing with stacking limits, Bataan is much less and will eat your supply very quickly. For future reference, make your first stand at Clark, not Bataan. Clever Japanese player might delay the capture of Manila so that Clark LCUs retreat to the city when pushed out, and not to Bataan. And they always do. Yes, it also keeps supply source in allied hands for longer, yet it is a viable tactic to end the resistance on Luzon quickerORIGINAL: witpqs+1 And if you are playing with stacking limits, Bataan is much less and will eat your supply very quickly. For future reference, make your first stand at Clark, not Bataan. I wouldn't know any Japanese player who would use such dirty tactics on Luzon... .

One interesting fight is at Singkep, south of Singapore. I think he landed a bit light here, and the Dutch have been holding him off a few turns now.
Here's what happened at Geraldton. Provided he doesn't dump more troops there, Perth may hold out a while, as I have a brigade with an HQ there. I should have an Australian division assembled at Karachi within about 3 days, so I'll get them shipped over as quickly as possible.
Chinese troops reached Lang Son and are attacking next turn.
Strikes have been attacking ships at Maryborough, Odd that he's keeping KB parked there. My retreating CL group took a few bombs but should be free next turn. CAP from Brisbane did help them.
All the transports in Australia are now departing for good. With the situation as it is, Oz isn't a supply hub for anyone right now. All the bigger stuff is off to the States, while the xAKLs are going to New Zealand.
