Runtime Error on Check for Updates Button

I have updated WitW to v.1.01.37 and added Operation Torch. However, when I click the "Check for Update" button on the initial screen, I get a "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library message saying Runtime Error! Program: C:Matrix Games\Gary Grigsby's War in the West\update.exe abnormal program termination" and it won't check for updates. On the other hand, the game seems to play normally. Is there a fix to allow checking for updates?

FYI - I do not have this problem running War in the East.
